chev blitz

Heading out in the morning to look at aC 60L with old truck spoter himself Mark Sierant, will let you all know what we find. Max

C60L

I found one yesterday in Wagga on the way home from the museum - a very ratty late production C60L with a crane.
Another surprising sight on the Hume this morning around Seymour - first a Spitfire fuselage on the back of a truck - this is a genuine one which was passed in at auction recently, then about 5 minutes later a CGT #9 on 20" wheels under it's own steam!

Keith, did you chase it down to find out whose it is and what it's doing?

Keith Webb 08-06-03 22:58

No, but...

I was under the pump to get back - I know it's not a real excuse but this is a known vehicle so I wasn't too concerned about chasing it - if I had more time I might have given chase although I would have had to travel several kilometers before finding a turning point.
Besides, my "CMP points" were at an all-time low due to being away filming for a week.

chev is home

Aaron and I brought the Blitz home to-day. Chassis No. 3844361290. Engine No. PR3946268. Order No.SM-E52-448. Date of Manufacture 22-09-1944 AUS M The engine in the vehicle is not the original. The No. of the engine in the vehicle currently is TR2000214. The vehicle is quite sound, tray is not original and the engine is a bit sick. No 1 conrod has left the c rank. MAX.

Three More Found

After we loaded Max up with the Chev I headed of on the bike in search of other Blits in the district and found three more.
A very poor condition ford 12 cab possible only the bonnet is saveable. A 134 inch chev with the bigest Jib crane I have ever seen and a shorty Chev did not get many details as the owner was out. I did not want to get caught crawling over another mans treasure without permission.

I was spotted

I was spotted on the way home by another collector who lives at Rye Park. He rang me that night to quiz me as to what we had, after I told him it was a chev that eased him a bit, as he only has Fords. He questioned me fairly well as it's close to his patch where we found it. Good to see that you had a good explore around the area Mark.

Hi Max,

Truck spotting

Hi All,
While out on a rcovery trip yesterday I travelled East through Sale & spotted a C15a with aussie tray. The wheel carrier/toolbox had been removed & the front of the tray extended up to the back of the cab to make room for a cran jib. The truck is For Sale A$1000.
More pics of the recovery to come.
Euan.

Engine #

Engine # TRTR2000214 is I believe I failry early 1940 Model Truck unit, right hand drive of course, and Canadian. I wonder what the casting date code is?

Max Hedges 12-06-03 11:01

is this it

1-1-9 these numbers are in behind the starter motor underneath numbers 839253. The engine was reconditioned in 1965. If there are supposed to be more let me know.

We are expecting aa cold blast of winter this coming weekend, snow on the mountains and maybe down to our level.

839253 Casting #

The casting number quoted appears, and I repeat appears, to be a Cylinder Head casting number, and the date would appear to be 1942 at leasr...I have only ever come across this one once before..WR 3808775 Head cast 839253 Dtae code C 5 2 March 5th 1942. This could be the original head off the original engine.
The casting date code appears to be I 1 9, i.e. September 1 1939, which makes it a very early Canadian 1940 Truck right hand drive unit although production of 1940 Models did not start until October 20 1939. On the block there should be a block casting number plus a date code.
