Saladin odd stuff

1 Attachment(s)
Several of us have been trying to
identify the purpose of a couple of features of the Saladin turret.
These items are not identified in any of the publications that
have become available in the civilian area eg User manual,
parts manual etc.

1) Attached to the commander's periscope guard is a small
mount. One Saladin owner swears that this is for a binocular
rest/mount. But no one can verify this including him. Nor
can anyone identify the existance of such a rest.
Is he correct, if not what is it's purpose?

See attached picture "Saladin guard mount".

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards
Doug

2) On the under side of the turret roof directly behind the
gunner is a stowage device. It is thought this may be for
a ruptured case/stuck case extracter for the 76mm gun. (The
stowage diagram in the manual shows a rectangular object
in this stowage, but does not identify it. Noteworthy is
that it has been drawn 180° incorrect in direction
compared to all known surviving Saladins).

What goes here?

See attached pic "Odd mount behind gunner-1 red".

Hanno,

I wonder if this is going to turn into another "Sherman Comb" saga?

Hope not, a nice quick simple explanation is far preferred!

Doug, all I can do in this case is help hoping someone digs up the documents describing it's purpose before the imagination of Saladin enthusiasts runs wild!

For those who are wondering why Doug refers to a comb when talking to a bald guy, click here.

Hanno

Now, now, McSpool; not exactly correct, there is still a fuzzy bit around the edges; just don't bend over when the sun is out or you'll blind us all.
