Battery Trolley
 

I am posting this photo with the kind permission of Clive Elliott. He has kindly supplied me with this photo and a couple of others. This is the battery trolley I just aquired through Dirk leegwater. I am looking for any other info or photos. They were used for starting aircraft. I thought it would look good towed behind the 2N tractor. This one was originally yellow. I would also be looking for any info on the cable or connectors.Thanks in advance.

hi Barry,

Since your posting on HMVF regarding your battery trolley, or "trolley acc" as it was known in the RAF, I have come up with a website regarding the charging set that they carried on them. I mentioned the charging set at the time, powered by a JAP 2A engine.

Thanks Richard for posting the link to the information on the charging unit. There was one of these little generators with my HUP when I purchased it assumed use charging the batteries for recording in equipment when the truck was used by the BBC. This is the first real information that I found for the unit, now I’ll have to see if I can restore the little generator.

Hi Phil,

As far as I know, this set was for RAF use. Have a look at any of the data plates on it and look for the letters "AM" with possibly a crown between the letters. This would denote Air Ministry, who procured equipment for RAF.

Never being able to find much about the generator I just set it asside in storage. Now I'll have to take a closer look at the data plate.

Hello Barry, I was just having a look back over the threads when I found this one.
I'll be getting my hands on an accumulator trolley soon and was wondering what info you have on them as it would seem that the one I'll be getting is pretty much the same as yours.

Did you get the one that was just on E-Pay? It is more complete than mine and looked like a real deal to me. I have reached a dead end as far as info for these trolleys go. I never got any replies from the aircraft types as to the plug on the cable but I was able to get a good photo of it from the E-Pay addvert.
Maybe now with two of us trying we can come up with something.

Your right it was the one of Ebay, had to go for it as we're doing living history the servicing Commandos so will be ideal.
If I get a chance tomorrow I'll send the info I have.
Its not alot but I'm working on getting more, fortunately I work at the RAF Museum at Hendon so have access to 2 mark 5s (I think thats the ones we have?), and have asked the dept of research and they have forwarded the info from the APs, which isn't much but its something!
The plugs on ours are different to the military types, I can take a photo and forward to you, it doesn't mean the ones at work are correct though!!!
