Old CMP's never die......

They just get bombed!

Errr, I mean they hang out with bombers. Here's some shots of the Colling's Foundation B 17; NINE O' NINE, B 24; WITCHCRAFT, and B 25; TONDALEYHO which visited the Frontiers of Flight museum in Dallas at Love Field this weekend. After three days of negotiations with the F.A.A., Dallas police, Airport Security, C.E.O. of the Museum, the pilots and an Act of Congress I was allowed to drive my truck just inside the fence line to get some pictures near the aircraft...hence the excessive contrast as the sun was in an inopportune quadrant, but some pics is better than no pics so enjoy!

Hi,

They are great pictures. The only way they would be better is if you had a Halifax or a Lancaster beside your truck.

Cheers,
Greg

There is! Zoom in on my T-shirt.

By-the-by, is the C.W.H. Museum Lanc still flying? I saw it once at the Abbotsford International airshow along with the Hurricane and they were about the most magnificent sight on the planet. There was a little old woman sitting next to me at the airshow. I happened to glance at her as they flew by and noticed she had tears streaming down her cheek. I smiled at her and she smiled back and told me that she had worked on Hurricanes during the war. Seeing one flying again brought back many good memories for her.
It was cool this weekend in the morning so I started off the day wearing my C.F. issued anti-FOD coveralls. The pilot of the B25 recognized my insignia and came up to me and introduced himself. Small world...he was a ret'd C.F. captain and a Flight Surgeon. He was posted to both Trenton and Goose Bay back in the sixties and had stick time on the old Yukon. Smaller world...He and I had attended the same Elementary school in West Vancouver, albeit at different times! great guy with lots of stories and about the best job on the planet!

:salute: CHIMO! :salute:

Hi,

Yes I believe the lancaster is still in the air.

That will be a fabulous weekend! There is no more quintessential memorial to the dark days of the war as the aircraft of the Battle of Britain. In the days before Operation Sea Lion was cancelled the skies over London and Southern England reverberated daily with the sounds of Merlin V12's. You'll get to hear that, my friend. Enjoy it and remember, "Never was so much owed by so many to so few!"

Hmmm, how far is it to Reading from Dallas?

 CHIMO!

our poor ford is pretty crook

my brother picked up the ford to take to town not realising that I had been working on it, and drove it to town without checking the oil. Things don't look well we might have to get out the life support system to revive her.

Who is the Blonde

Well Max its sad to hear that the Ford has a problem that may be terminal. It seems that a little QA system needs to be implemented over at Yass. (Shit I Cant stop Laughing) sorry Max.
I can hear the conversation

The "Warbirds over Wanaka" Pyrotechnics crew had this convoy of CMP's earmarked for destruction. Fortunately, only the two on the bridge were destroyed when the bridge went up in a gout of flame.

A Gout Of Flame

Hi Tim Tam Tony
I've never heard the above phrase before and even went to the dictionary, no luck. Please explain.
Bob

Tony Smith 21-04-06 01:09

To broaden your education, Bob, it is a largish, sudden eruption of fire, just a tad short of an explosion. The red drums placed in front of the bridge in the picture have a black powder igniter floating in about 15 litres of petrol/diesel mix. Result: Gout of Flame!

Oh veritable font of knowledge, I sit in awe at your response.
You obviously worked very hard for this result. Was there a train strike??
