Reading Penna USA Re-enactors

I took these pictures on 6 Jun 2003 at Reading, Pennsylvania USA at a re-enactors/airshow weekend.

I'm having a memory of encountering a carrier as a 10/12 year old back in the early 1950's. Our family went on a picnic, and out behind the barn was this square-boxy thing on tracks. I remember it had no roof, which I thought was odd, and there was a flat-head V-8 in the middle of it. I don't remember the steering wheel (at the time, I knew tracked things were steered with levers). It had to have been a Bren Gun Carrier; the story was that it was bought surplus near Philadelphia, and driven there over snow-covered roads.

No, there is not a chance that it is still there!

The Boys rifle on this carrier is functional, but has been modified to .50 cal to avoid conflict with US firearms laws (anything over .50 cal is a 'destructive device' and falls into a more restrictive category)

This driver looks like the real thing!!

I was amazed at how cramped the drivers compartment is.

LT Ducky,

Thanks for the pics.

The Bren Carrier you saw could have been a T16 Universal Carrier. It was assembled by Ford USA and differed from British and Canadian Universal Carriers in having tiller steering (but with 4 instead of the usual 2) and a longer hull. Do you remember if the one you saw had four road wheels on each side instead of three?

Regards,
Hanno

Well, maybe you've always wondered why the ones you saw later in your long life had one wheel missing :)
