What's in a name?
There's a tank enthusiast down this way who has named a daughter Matilda and a son either Grant or Stuart (can't remember which).
Does anyone have any other examples of names for children influenced by their hobby? |
"hobby names"
I once met a bloke who had the first names of all the players in a Premiership winning St George football team from the mid 60s as his middle names. He had all sorts of trouble filling out forms. His Dad thought it was a good idea at the time when he registered the birth.

Don't know anyone with children named after mv's, but do have a friend who named his dog after his Austin ex-military truck. Richard |
My son

I'm sure I'll regret confessing this, but my son was given the well thought out name of Colin Michael Parker..."CMP". This was not a fast one I pulled over on my wife. She was in on it and has from time to time compared his rare stubborn steaks to the flat nosed relic in the garage.
My daughter Victoria wants to know why we named her after the dower old lady with the crown who's framed picture holds a place of honour in our dining room. Picture of the family some years ago when they were tots: |

Hi
Aside from MVs I also have a strong interest for air-cooled Volkswagens. I've had 3 of them now as well as 3 later water-cooled models. I tried very hard to allow my wife to name one of our daughters "Karmann" but she wasn't having any of that!! :D I did end up with a dog named "Ghia" and she was a Boxer (that's a VW motor type for those that don't know). Pure-bred and pedigreed with her full name (Art Fisher's Karmann Ghia) duly registered with the Canadian Kennel Club. She and I looked great zipping around in her Blut-Orange namesake in Alberta and Southern Ontario years ago.:D Sadly, she just passed away. regards Darrell |
Names
Our second son (just turned 21) we named Brett. One saturday morning at home, when Brett was about 2 months old, the court bailiff turned up and very nicely informed us that if we didn't register him with the registrar of births deaths and marriages, very soon, that the Court would fine us. So Brett ended up Brett Braden. Any one into WW2 WC Dodge trucks will know where the Braden came from, and if you dont, have a look at the winch on one sometime.

I've had many people have great fun calling me Karmann Ghia over the years :D (that or Carmen Miranda/Carmen Veranda/Carmelita, and so on ... ) So sorry to hear you lost your Ghia :( Karmen |
Hi Karmen
I suspected you might have a comment about that!! :D Believe me, I was all for it but "the long-haired General" was definately not. Thanks for the sentiment ref Ghia. She was a great pet whom we had even before the kids. We'll miss her. As we saw with Sean (Snowtractor) and his Chelsey, it's important to remember them as part of the family. I also know an Armoured Officer with a dog named "Sabot". ;) regards Darrell |
I had two cats named Boris and Natasha, from 8 weeks. Boris got eaten by coyotes a few years back, but I still have Tasha. She's 14 now and a total suck (as Karmen will attest).
