hi all

during the second world war, base borden, and i suspect others had printed a monthly magazine. attached below is the cover of "the tank", which was bordens base mag. it is dated june 1944. it belonged to my uncle, who was pictured in it training on the sten mk2. i have never seen any other base magazines in all my travels, and this may be the only one in existance. hope you like the cover :smoker: mike

Mike:

Can you bring that magazine to CC5 so that we can see it "for real"?

mike mckinley 04-06-06 16:05

hi jon

the mag is in pretty delicate shape, in short, it has come apart. i was thinking of scaning it and re printing it, keeping the wear and tear off the original.......would a copy suffice? if so, i'll get one ready for cc5

cheers!!

A scarce magazine!

I keep my eye out for these magazines, but never come across any for sale. I did find a cache of these available for viewing at the Museum of the Regiments in Calgary. They have most issues from 1942-1945. (The Tank was published from November '40-June '45). Some library or Archive somewhere must have a complete set??

I made some photocopies and a few digital pictures of a few covers and articles. Most issues run about 48 pages IIRC.

Here is the last issues' cover.

Ram Tank banner

The early 1944 issues all had the rather fanciful Ram tank as the masthead.

(At least I think it is supposed to be a Ram?)

Interesting Articles and cartoons too.

For an extra $100 you too can have a "stretch jeep".

i really want to thank you for posting these images as they are the first i have seen outside the one magazine i have. to me it is just as important to save things like this as it is to save the vehicles. i'll try to post more from the magazine tomorrow
