Rifle Butte Holder

The picture shows the remains of a holder from my HUP, a NOS holder, and my attempt at a reproduction. The HUP holder is very coarse grained (likely pine) and the NOS holder is a fine grained hardwood (maybe oak).
Does anyone need dimensions from the NOS holder?

Convoy mag....

There was a comprehensive article in a recent Convoy magazine giving dimensions etc......

How did you make yours.... hand carved inside or machine done??? router??? drill press??

The new one does look very good........

.... something almost everyone needs two of........

Repro

A HUP owner needs four. I used a hole saw at each end of the cavity and chiseled out the middle. I dont own a router but that's likely the way to go.

I had 2 sets manufactured by an old cabinet maker here in Australia. They were made from blocks and 2 large holes drilled out to make the initial shape and then cleaned out with a router. The outside was then shaped with a router. The only difference from an original is the slope built into the cutout to take the butt that is not sitting flat. I filled the bottom by gluing felt into it and no one would pick it from an original. Here is a picture of the holder and window holders I had made.
