Has anyone any idea what these are please from the 1936 WD Trials, North Wales?

Crossley? Or Leyland?

I wondered if it was either the Commer Spider 4 x 4 or the Marmon-Herrington 4 x 4 ...never seen it before! Could also be the Commer Beetle that was trialled in Belgium in '36.

There is one photo in the long out of print British Military Transport by David Jane.
The 15cwt is the prototype Guy Ant, of 1937.
Although difficult to make out, the registration number would appear to be the same on the photo in this book.

that would be a Leyland Retriever with what looks like a searchlight body. The truck is fitted with what was called the 'commercial style radiator, some had 'bus' style and the last type for six months was the 'Scammell' type

Pete, thanks for that...it makes sense as the '36 WD Trails Report mentions the Leyland Retriever...the other Leyland was that 'Cub' 6 x 4 demonstrator, of which we now have two photos.

Thanks also for the referebce to the Guy Ant. It certainly looks different from the early Ant that I have a photo of. Further, no mention was made of the 'pilot' Ant in the '36 Report. However it clearly is on the Trials as it has the running number. The Report mentions the rad being moved up six inches, etc. to create the Ant Series II...this must be the classic cab design that of course arguably begat the CMP cab. If this is indeed the pilot Ant, then it is a mystery as to how it was not mentioned as being in the '36 Trials and also not referred to in COMMERCIAL MOTOR September 25th 1936 which indicentally did not mention the Retriever either! So, that's nothing to go by.

I note that the vehicle now has a dent in the front offside wing.

I have tried to make the registration clearer, but had no luck.
