Wouldn't it put a SEG on your face?
Well, y'see it has something to do with this...
http://oldcmp.net/images/aircraft/ty.../mustang_1.jpg I was shooting video footage as well as some stills today of the Mustang and Yak 9 today... and had my first ride behind a Merlin which was quite an experience. We even did some aerobatics, loops, rolls and a low-level run along a beach for fun. Here's the Yak which is one of the new build ones fitted with an Allison V12. It's a sweet aircraft and a good performer. http://oldcmp.net/images/aircraft/ty...Yak_vert_1.jpg And together... http://oldcmp.net/images/aircraft/ty...k/yakstang.jpg |
Yakkety-Yak! Don't talk back!

They do sound nice! Here's a Kiwi Yak on warm-ups before take-off. Makes your chest cavity resonate. :D

Kiwiyak
That's another of the new-build Yaks. Apparently the jigs have now been bought by interests in Bulgaria who are a lot easier to deal with than the Russians.
Jim's comment (Jim and his wife are the owners of the one I shot) was the aircraft is extremely well built and came with a set of assembly cradles and everything needed to put it together. It is certainly not built like a Lada. Here's a pic of my friend James who came with me on the flight and was very helpful. He's extremely knowledgeable when it comes to aircraft and writes many articles for warbird magazines. He is also putting a series of books together. http://oldcmp.net/images/aircraft/ty..._yak/James.jpg James took several pics of me in action. Here's one from the Piper Seneca we were using as the camera ship. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...2/Tyabb/06.jpg |
OK Here's the S.E.G.
I've been wanting to do this since I was 15. Images courtesy of James Kightly.
http://oldcmp.net/images/aircraft/ty...ng_yak/KGW.jpg Here we are launching... http://oldcmp.net/images/aircraft/ty.../launching.jpg And the return. http://oldcmp.net/images/aircraft/ty...yak/return.jpg Very loud, but what a memorable experience :D |

Great pics, thanks for sharing. H. |
Job
Thanks, Hanno
When I was 15 I always wanted to get into photography - it's taken a long time to realise that particular dream though. As you can see I was shooting it - the DVD of the Tyabb airshow will be ready soon! |
Hope you take some shots of Judy Pay.
Now there is one hell of a pilot, and she is a real lady to go with it. The shot of you reminds me of my Labrador, just after he has cleaned up his favourite lunch, Kidneys. I would have thought the proper and decent thing on your part, was to at least look sad, until all the photos were taken. I am so old we were still flying Mustangs, when I joined up. Regards Col |
Thanks Col
Indeed Judy is a remarkable woman, and is to be congratulated on her wonderful achievements, not just as a pilot but in the Old Aeroplane Company, her creation.
In the hangar the P40 is making excellent progress, looking like an aircraft again with the wings and engine fitted and she has an engineer working on it full-time. Then there are the Harvards, and a very interesting Storch waiting their turn. If I wanted to look sad I'd eat a bowl of kidneys - YUK! |
Keefy, was your SEG BEFORE the topsy-turvy hair-raising flight? Cuz I imagine YOUR tummy contents may have wanted to come back up and out and a grin would cut it all loose so you daren't grin ...
SEG MA YAPPY STRIKES AGAIN :D |
That grin
Yes, that pic was taken before the flight, but the SEG was even bigger after! :p
