Naval can?

Would this be a naval oil can? 1941 is early, but would this be something carried on an MTB or a torpedo-carrying destroyer? maybe the Haida folks might be interested...

Interesting

I have a 1941 2 gallon can with the embossed phrase "petroleum spirits highly flammable" on the top of the can. This one has the term "torpedo fuel oil" on its' top. What other variations to the early 1941 cans are there?

I'm told elsewhere it's perfectly at home on HMCS HAIDA (or on any MTB)... ergo if I get it, that's where it'll go.

Hi,
Re: The 2 gal.Torpedo Fuel Oil can.
I have a number of these and a relative who served on MTBs confirmed they did carry the torpedo fuel in them. The ones I've got have the Canadian Broad Arrow stamped on them.Essentially the same can as the P.O.W. cans carried on CMPs,Carriers etc.The same style of can was also used as a water can for the Vickers MMG.

$39.67US

Geoff,

I know that you wanted to do the right thing - but anybody who needs an old tin can bad enough to spend $40 bucks on it wants it pretty bad.

:(

Yeah, I didn't want it THAT badly.... :D

Another

Gents,

I see that the same guy got $38.50 US plus postage for another 2 gallon tin can.

I guess that Flyinob and StewBud cannot compete with the 'big dogs' for these trinkets. I suppose that this means ( another ) summer of scrounging the local flea markets for this stuff.

I had a 1 gallon can of this sytle ( broad arrow stamped!) that I gave away a year ago - I should have sold it on eBay and paid off my mortgage instead!
:p
