Hi Karmen;

Isn't Art still down south this time of year?

Cheers

I could be wrong by I don't think Art and Catherine go down there anymore.

Our fellow member Art Johnson, a wounded veteran of Korea, is in hospital right now, suffering from what they suspect is liver cancer. I just got off the phone with him and he has authorized my posting. I told him he has been missed and he said that meant a lot to him.

I will keep you posted on his condition. The diagnosis is not final as yet.

In his honour --

I'm glad you called him Geoff. Thank you for that!

And to ART, if you get online and are able to read this thread, ...

"Who loves you, baby?" ... I do ;) .... my prayers and love are with you, of course, and Catherine as well. I'm not much of a help for you right now, but I can, and DO pray, and mean it heart and soul. If there is any other thing in the world you think I can do to help in any small way ... please just say the word.

Karmen

Prayers and best wishes to Art & his family - here's hoping the diagnosis is wrong!

I'm certainly hoping that as well ... hoping it's just a temporary
funky-liver that will settle down.

Hey Dave ... please pass on a hello to Chrissie for me ;)

Geoff and all those who may have known Art - just got the word at army.ca

http://forums.army.ca/forums/index.p...6.new.html#new

Art certainly touched a lot of people online in his "declining" years - a very active man and one who had stuff to offer right through to the end of his life.

Thought y'all might like to know.

Who loves you baby, you ask me?

I answer, "We all do."

:salute:

and  Karmen

I felt this today ... how? I don't know. My heart goes out to Catherine and the rest of Art's family ...

Michael: I met Art, or rather he "found me" in your forum and replied to a post I'd done. He helped me regards my researching my Uncle, before I found and joined MLU.

I "met" him again in here. We exchanged emails over the last couple of years or so, keeping each other posted on "how goes things". I've always felt honoured and surprized, and delighted, by his emailing me. I'm going to miss him so much and am so damned sad we didn't meet in person before he got too sick and I moved from Toronto. We planned on it. He planned on bringing and giving me a book of his that he thought I'd enjoy. But then he quickly became too ill.

Some people get inside of you and they leave their mark, and memories, forever. He reached a lot of people. I'm glad his stories and life, his service, his sacrifices, are known and honoured, as they should be. What a soldier and what a man. I'm glad he's not in pain anymore. I hated knowing what he was probably going through.

And i'm really going to miss him so damned much :(

Karmen.

Thank you for the heads-up, Michael. Art was personally known to me, and he WILL be missed. An amazing man who had endured what no man should and prospered regardless.

Spoke to the 48th today... the Regiment will not be in attendance at the funeral formally, but their Old Comrades Association will be, and I understand with a piper. Some will be in uniform.

Mark, I hope the RCR will have at least one representative present as well; Art deserves no less.

Having known Art since the early days shortly after the war I can truly say he was a gentle soul. He paid a great sacrifice, the loss of his leg from a Chinese mortar in Korea. Art never complained and always had a positive outlook on life. It was truly a great honor to have known him and served with him in the 48th Reserve after WW2. I salute you Art.
Here is a photo of Art in his younger days. He is eighth from the right in the second row.

Awesome photo with Art that you posted Norm. Thank you.

I know he was your friend too and it's hard to say goodbye. I'll say to you, I'm sorry you lost your friend Norm, but I'm glad you have your memories of his friendship through the years. We never really "lose" people ... not completely. They stay with us.

Yesterday was also the anniversary day that my Mom passed away from her first, and final, heart attack in 1989. God, how I miss her sometimes, but I smile and laugh with the memories of her too. Thank god for memory ... well, once the initial grief and wanting our loved ones back ebbs some anyways ;)

Art, sometimes he couldn't manange with the computer and typing, as it was always difficult for him to do with the permanant damage from the mortar to his arm and his surgeries on it ... I know he emailed or Pm'd me in spite of the discomfort sometimes, and thats what made me feel so honoured and delighted to know that he did. His communications meant more to me in knowing that.

Art ... really was a good and wonderful soul. He's someone I'll never forget for sure, and I really, really miss him, knowing he's gone forever. I'm glad of what communications and sharings we did have though, and will always have that to remember.

Karmen.
