yes that is my carrier 151. The lights were added to make the carrier legal on London roads. We had to have two head lights, side lights, brake lights. and a new horn. All are quickly dettachable. But we don't have to pay the Congestion charge in London. Ha ha!! As a matter of interest, the guy standing up we think is a direct decendent to Gonville Bromhead, the officer incharge of Rorks Drift. Played by Micheal Cain inthe film Zulu. It was great to see so many guys at Beltring, specially Hanno and Jim Burrell. Any more pics of Beltring Barry |

Under UK Law a match pair of headlights are only required during the hours of darkness. The side lights are however a problem because the light emitting lense area does not meet legal standards. Having said that I dont know how much driving you do at night on the road. It's not safe to drive a Mk2 Carrier on the road without a commander because you have no view left (fold down flap deleted on Mk2). I therefore get the commander to do hand signals standing up if required. |

... and here another carrier playing in the Beltring dust. Unbelievable, every year during the W&P show the most beautiful weather arrives in the UK. How is it deserved??

Hope your well Were you at Beltring? I spotted Les Yes your right about the headlights thats why their there. But please explain the side light rule? I agree about the commander but we've moved on from a man with a flag walking in front. (safety first) Have you come across minimum track surface in contact with the road yet.? Thats another mine field. regards Barry |

I was at Beltring on the Saturday and got soaked in the rain storm. I saw what I assumed to be your carrier covered up. Regarding the sidelight question I cannot immeadiately find my source information for my statement. Back in the 1980's there was a series of article's in Windscreen magazine by Chris Davis discussing legal requirements for preserved military vehicles used on the road. There was some discussion regarding the legality of american war-time rear light units and I can't remember how it was resolved. Irrespective of that if some-one ran into the back of an inadequetly lit war-time MV, I think the Police would take an interest. Regarding your track question, I assume you have been attracting some unwelcombe attention from the Police? I do not know under what legislation this is being questioned, but obviously a lot of acts cannot be retospectivley applied if past the date of manufacture. As our carrier is very rarely driven on the road I do not envisage a problem. |

Thanks for the info. The extra lights added front and back are easy big enough. the indcators and brake lights are a god send. I have kept all the original vehicle lighting. No, my local constabulary have been great. there very interested more than anything. The track surface rules can be obtained from Swansea, but best kept away from. When will we see your carrier out ?
