Mystery solved?

I have been rummaging through my old records in the search for evidence about the first CMP orders from London. I believe that I may have solved a mystery about the 30-cwt Chevrolet WA lorries to Contract V.4028..L 241482 to 241837. Bart Vanderveen used a photo of one which had a utlity cab: IWM photo H14902 and he said H15110 but it is very difficult to make anything out on the latter as it was a depot shot. These were used by the RASC it seems.

A Ministry of Supply Memorandum 2 October 1940 states that “360 Chevrolet Lorries” had been acquired from diverted cargoes and had been assembled, and were being taken into use by the Army. The W.O. were anxious to put them into service as soon as possible but required spare parts [from Canada] in order to do so.

It is thought that these were C.K.D. diverted from Antwerp.

On demob it appears that sometimes the V.4028 contract which must have been on a plate, is quoted as a serial number. Hence we know EO 8878 had ENGINE # ZR3,724,322 [1941 CMP ENGINE: THIS COULD BE A REBUILD EXCHANGE ENGINE], and DPM 233 and HUP 820 were included.
