Any one know of privately owned ferrets in Canada? I know of a few in Alberta and Ontario, and soon Brad in N.S. But I don't know of any more in Quebec/ eatern Ontario.
Here's mine.

The Ferret Club, based at the Oshawa Airport location, housing the Ontario Regiment's Museum artifacts, have several. Most recently, one was on display at the the Canadian National Exhibition, 19 Aug 06, part of the Ontario Military Vehicles Association display during Warrior's Day Parade.

Also, Fred vanSickle, of Collector's Source, in Acton, imported several Ferrets back in the mid to late 80's.

So, yes, there are a few floating about.

There are a couple in private hands here in Manitoba, and I know of at least one in Saskatchewan. There are a number of them in Alberta.
I used to have an ex-Canadian example, but when my personal situation required me to sell; it ended up heading south to the USA.

Brian Asbury also brought some in back in 93.

Dan,I live in Montreal, been in a lot of parades with the air force pipe band here, but have never seen your ferret ! Do you ever take it out for public displays ?? :salute:

I had it out at the veteran's hospital on fathers day. I live in Pincourt. As far as shows, I just got it in december, and had to freshen it up. So as far as showing it, this spring I should have it sorted. I don't venture too far, as gas is crazy...6 mpg. 4 mpg with all the stop signs. Besides, I have a C plate on it, so the highways are off limits. The Orange Julep via the back roads is a long way. I don't really know of any military shows in the area, and am thinking of starting a club in the west of the island. Where are you in town?

Hi Dan

I'm in Greenfield Park across the Victoria Bridge.I have a friend in Pincourt.I'll ask him if he's seen you around. If you only have a C plate, how did you get the ferret across the bridge out your way to St.Anne's Vets hospital ??

Dan Sicotte 26-08-06 23:47

C plates or Tourism plate restricts me from using federal highways. With exception to where the speed limit is reduced, and where the service roads are not accessible. Ie; the Saint Annes Bridge, the Isle aux Tourtes bridge on the 40. As there is no way around the bridge. Besides, who really cares. If I get stopped by the police, I'll expalin myself and hope for the best. If I eat a ticket, I'll pay it and get on with life.
Dan
If you ever get out this way, drop me a PM.

Ferrets in British Columbia, Canada

There are two ex-Canadian Ferrets in BC that I know of.

54-82591 "COYOTE" owned by Grant McAvoy of Abbotsford. Ex-UNFICYP vehicle we believe. Fixed up. Ex-Alan Kerr's MILARM shop in Edmonton.

54-82598 owned by Colin Stevens of Mission, BC (across the Fraser River from Abbotsford. Unrestored, complete and original. Ex-LdSH(RC) and Combat Arms School. Ex-Crown Surplus Stores in Calgary, Alberta.

There are also some ex-British Army Ferrets around.
1. BC Regiment has a Mk II with turret. Restored. Ex-BATUS (British Army Training Unit in Suffield, Alberta)
2. A North Vancouver man has a Mk. I/2 which had the fixed turret (turret discarded in Belgium before vehicle was shipped over to Canada). Now rigged for fun 4x4 with GPS, roof etc.
3. Ashton Armoury Museum in Victoria, BC has a Mk. II with turret. Restored. Ex-Grant Hopkins.
