Hero at Dawson Collage
 

A salesman at my work told me this story today. A good friend of his by the name of Yves Morin, works at Dawson as a carpenter in the maintenance department. He was having his lunch in the cafeteria when the gunman came in. Yves grabbed a girl who was running and pulled her down and covered her, and took a bullet in the shoulder. Anyone who steps into the line of fire and takes a bullet to protect another person deserves to be called a hero. Lets hope that he is recognized for what he did.

Write him up or go to the college and get them to verify the case and write it up.

A medal of bravery would be appropriate in this case but it will tkae two to three years to see it happen.

Michel the salesman at work told me the story about Yves on Friday afternoon. I told him that he must do something because his friend deserves to be recognized for what he did. Michel said that he would think about it over the weekend.

When I got home the story was already on CTV news net. They reported that a staff member was wounded in the shoulder saving a student from the gunman. I made the post on MLU and forgot about it for the weekend.

I think someone read my post, because on Monday morning I received a phone call at work from a reporter from the Journal de Montreal asking if I knew Yves Morin. He had first phoned my house and got my work number from my daughter. I told the reporter to talk to Michel and gave him his cell number.

On Tuesday the Journal de Montreal had several pages about the happenings at Dawson College, including more than half a page with a picture, about Yves Morin and his heroics last Wednesday.

Michel told me that Yves is a little POed about all the attention he was getting.

To show what a small world it can be; Michel told me that another friend of Yves and himself was to do some contract work at a house on the west Island. He phoned the owner and told him that he couldn’t make it that day because he was going to pick up his friend at the hospital. He started to explain the details, but the home owner cut him off and said, “ I know all about it, the girl your friend saved is my niece”.

That has totally made the hair stand up on the back of my neck.

You definately can't say that there's not something "out there". If we had a statistician, what would the odds be on that.

Definately a hero to selflessly put himself in danger to help others.

Governor General announces the awarding of 53 Decorations for Bravery

OTTAWA—Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General of Canada, announced today the awarding of four Stars of Courage and 49 Medals of Bravery. The recipients will be invited to receive their decorations at a ceremony to be held at Rideau Hall at a later date

Medal of Bravery
On September 13, 2006, a heavily armed man arrived at Dawson College in Montréal, Quebec, and started shooting at people on the street. Witness to the incident, Constable Alain Diallo exited his police cruiser and, dodging bullets aimed at him, followed the suspect into the school. The gunman found himself cornered in the cafeteria and fired at the students around him. Upon arriving at the school, constables Marco Barcarolo and Denis Côté made their way to the atrium above the cafeteria, where they attempted to keep the shooter’s attention away from the students. The gunman then ordered student James Santos to stand in front of him to shield him from the police. Despite having witnessed, at close range, the violence of the gunman, Mr. Santos tried in vain to get him to surrender. While the gunman was distracted, Vincent Pascale crawled to the cafeteria door and guided some 40 students to safety. Yves Morin was shot and injured in the shoulder when he pushed a female student out of the shooter’s line of fire. The incident came to an end when, wounded by a shot fired by Constable Côté, the gunman turned his weapon on himself and took his own life. :salute:
