hi all

attached is a photo of a trailer mounted air compressor, which i assume is ex canadian army. i noticed it while perusing the ican website. my questions about it are

(a) who is the manufacturer?

(b) when did this type of compressor enter canadian service?

(c) is there a military model number for it as with other vehicles, eg; m101cdn2, m149, ect?

thank you,

mike

With this day and age of computers, many of the codes are now on computer. If you come accross a copy of the Cdn Govt Cat of Material on CD, there is a section which will identify the Equipment maintenance codes. This is a 5 digit code which is used for everything from aircraft to tents. For example, SMPs are in the 30XXX range, with the old jeeps 30100-30104. The M151 was 30105, and the CJ7s wrere 30106. 5/4 tons were 30200, MLVWs are in the 30350 range, etc.
You'll note that these same numbers are part of the code used on the manual for that particular equipment.

There also exists the Equipment configuration codes (ECC), which will identify particular variations like IKEE installation. These are a bit more confusing than the EMCs.

The compressor looks like a Compair 175 made by Holman. We had similar ones where I work.

Air Compressor

Compair Compressor it is, they added checker plate fenders and set the unit on a generating trailer chassis, big time overkill. I picked one up at crown assets about 5 yrs ago. My only problem with the unit was the starter a 24 volt oddball that was still garbage after putting 300 bucks into it. I managed to find a 12 volt delco and for now it's a 12/24 mix.
I can still remember towing it home 45 miles in a december snowstorm after working graveyard shift, No brakes on the unit and a 4x4 1/2 ton towing it, I had no trouble stayin awake that morning!
