urgent: Ram Kangaroo interior info wanted
 

I urgently need (I'll explain later) as much as possible information re. the interior of the Ram Kangaroo. Presently I cannot access my printed references; the only information I have online can be found here - see pics below.

Can anyone add anything to this, please?

Just stowage as far as I can see, Hanno... while the crew's gear and miscellaneous crap will have been stashed outside the crew compartment, all task-related gear will have been inside, including a good stock of .50/.30 cal ammunition for the inevitable turret-ring Browning. This will probably have found an ad-hoc roost on the right sponson.

I'll see what else I have at home, but from your tone I suspect it may be too late by then; perhaps Bill can add something more substantive in the interim.

Thanks Geoff. This Saturday Alex van de Wetering is going to see if he and another modeller have enough model kit parts and information between them to see if he can finish a 1:35 scale model in record time. So yes, the request is urgent, but still valid after this weekend.

Sorry, I don't have much, if anything to add :(

Every picture you have access to is virtually all the reference material we have. I agree with Geoff on the additional stowage. Some pioneer tools also stowed on the inside, shovels, crowbars etc. The LAD diaries mention moving the #19 set depending on the particular Ram model (models with the Aux. MG turret) but there is not much detail as to exact position. I'll see what I can dig up from the diaries tonight.

Thanks for the replies so far. This saterday I picked up the parts to build the Kangaroo scale model. I took some measurements and several reference pictures of the Mill Kangaroo, yesterday. I won't bother you with more model related info, but I also received some new (?) interior drawings from Bert Lindeboom who also provided most of the parts for the model and I thought it was worth displaying them here.

Thanks for the feathers up my........ :eek: Well, let's just say "another Dutch saying".

I have fitted the bogies in the meantime and the rear hull plate and Idlers are next.

Some things have got me puzzeled, though. Can anyone tell me more about the layout of the rear (lower) hull plate (behind the armor plates)? What is the right position for the air-filters and the exhausts (which way do they go)??? I have the Ram II parts list, but there doesn't seem to be a good drawing of the layout.

Any good pictures or references?

Thanks for posting the instructions. They are indeed very helpfull and I have allready used them for the model.

The layout is also similar to the Mill Kangaroo and the RAM in the Amersfoort Cavalry museum. A thing that got me puzzeled though, is that some Rams seem to have a different layout, for instance this one:

Continental R975/C1 engine replaces Wright R975/EC2, mufflers moved to top of engine from exterior, external square air cleaners mounted on rear hull plate replace internal box type. 2-piece rear engine grill replaced by one-piece grill

Alex, Wim is right - the pic you posted shows the early exhaust layout associated with the R975 EC2 engine.

The model you are building has the same technical features as the M4 and M4A1 Sherman with the common R975 C1 engine.

Wonder what the builder does for living
 

Looking at the level of detail involved I wonder what the creator of these models does for a living. Is this level of minute detail and manual dexterity part of there work as well it is truly amazing.

I hope to get some pictures of the Kangaroo model into the gallery of a modeling website I frequently visit and I will notify you when this succeeds. Intention is to write an article about the project for a modeling magazine, too.

Phil, I am an Industrial Design Engineer. I design all sorts of products ranging from wheelchairs, to firefighting equipment, to Automotive products etc. I use my modeling skills frequently to build prototypes and/or build presentation models, but most of the time I am busy with CAD programs, sketching and sourcing materials and parts.

I wish to thank Hanno Spoelstra and Bill Miller especially, for their help with this project.
