Deactivated .50 Cal Ammo
 

Before I go public on the opportunity to acquire clean deactivated .50 Cal ammuntion I am offering it to those who frequent this excellent site. The ammunition is completely "clean". In other words it is Lead-Free, Tracer-Free and all primers have been spent. I have approx 750 rounds available in whatever numbers you wish to have linked together.
Or you can purchase "loose" or link free. I am also open to trades in exchange for large quanities. If you are interested PM me for pics and more details. Sorry, only available to Canadian addresses. I will not ship outside the country.

Although this belongs under the restoration forum I hope you will forgive me.

After taking your advice I modified the excellent idea using the CLR. I tried a small batch of brass that been cleaned with washing soda and then sitting in the CLR overnight, and a batch in straight CLR. Since there was no discernable difference in results I eliminated the washing step and put the brass in 10 round lots into straight CLR. Afterwhich, I let the cleaned brass sit in a about 2 gal of fresh water to neutralize the CLR. I then used "elbow grease and Brasso to bring out the shine. Note: I also soaked the copper jacketed bullets in CLR as well. Do not do the bullets and then the brass without changing the CLR because you will end up with a fine coating of copper on the brass casings.

Now let me see, not heard of it down here, what is CLR.

I have a cleaning job coming up, on some very delicate brass curtain rings, and have been hestitant to start, because they have fine detail on them I do not want to damage.

Is this a commercial product, that can be bought across the counter.

Col, CLR can be found in Coles and Woolies supermarkets here in Aust, usually in the bathroom and laundry cleaning ailses.

Kerosene is another good method to clean, but not polish, Brass.

Brass Rings.....

What type of crud do you have on the brass rings..??If it is oil based crud ..use a strong mixture of washing soda.(Calcium Carbonate)..not Bi Carbonate...Calcium CARBONATE..
If if is scale build up such as lime or if it is oxidation of the brass itself,a mild acid such as phosphoric or muriatic acid will do the trick..Both give off fumes so be carefull..
Neither will hurt the base metal brass and only attack the deposits on the brass,if used for a short period..Usually they will clean up in a few minutes..
After acid bath rinse with a base solution such as baking soda,Sodium Bicarbonate..
Then with fresh water to clean..
To protect the shine a spray of laquer or a coating of light oil depending on the application of the rings..
If its to clean your wifes wedding ring..don't be so cheap and buy her a gold one..you won't have to keep cleaning it..

Alex you really got me chuckling.

My wife actually has an ultra sonic cleaner for her rings, but it is not big enough to do these rings.

The rings are very old, have little wheels on them to run along the curtain poles. I bought them in the USA on a business trip. Neither I or people who have looked at them have seen anything like them.

I like unusual things in my home, and these will make a good addition.

Was a bit surprised when you mentioned that the dummy .50 cal had gone through the mail, down here in the States they ask all sorts of questions now about the contents of packages. Of course 99.9 % of the security measures rely on the sender telling the truth.

Did he say mail???

Actually Phil, it's no problem shipping and receiving domestic shipments of both live and dummy ammo in most states here in the U.S. It's only when ammo is crossing international borders do customs agents get excited about such things. We have a great mail order outfit here in Fort Worth (www.cheaperthandirt.com) Right now they have 25 round belts of dummy .50 cal. ammo for $29.97. They also have live ammo for sale, for a little bit more. Only proviso is that live ammo must be shipped by ground. They have ball, armour piercing, and tracer rounds for 5.56, 7.62, as well as .50 cal.
