Non-military sword ID?

1 Attachment(s)
I know it's slightly outside the usual but perhaps someone has run across something similar to this. I picked it up about twenty-five years ago at a small antique shop in Port Credit (Ont.) The owner couldn't tell me any of its history and until I get a digital camera (next month?) this photo will have to do.
The blade is acid-etched with a rather busy floral design and some crosses but no makers name or markings. The scabbard & frog are dyed leather and the fittings are brass. One person suggested a Papal Guard sword but I don't think it's fancy enough for that. Definitely ceremonial, perhaps one of the grades of Freemasonry? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers, Dave

Dave:

You won't find this sort of thing in a Masonic Hall, at least not up to and including the 3rd degree.

Looks very much like a Knights of Columbus item.

Hmmmmm, how about the outer guard or Tyler being armed with a drawn sword to keep off all intruders etc.?

Hi dave..
The Fleur de lise on the cross guard suggests French or Flemish..
Here is a modern Masonic Sword..$175.00...

If it is a society sword you may find out from which one by the blade markings here...

http://www.ruble-enterprises.com/society_marks.htm

It looks like a K.Of C sword,similiar ones here..

Start with the markings on the blade and go from there..

Richard:

See below...different design. Not same as Tyler or IG.

Thanks for the input

other than a discreet number 3 on the crossguard there are no discernible markings. There appears to be a space on the blade for a name/motto but nothing is engraved there. I'll keep looking.

Cheers, Dave

Tim: That reference would be "Prieure de Sion".

Tut,tut...you being from Hamilton, should know what happens occasionally at the Royal Connaught, on James Street.

I say, Pilgrim...how far have you travelled?
