Faces of War

This has promise, and it's a welcome initiative of a government which has previously gone out of its way to forget those who have served on our behalf. I saw the following on the news tonight, and if they follow through, this will be a priceless resource:

All they need is another 50,000 pictures! ;)

Let's hope it continues to develop.

I agree with you Keith and as Jif says it has a lot of promise.

Cheers
Cliff :)

The guy I saw on the news said they have, and intend to publish, a quarter million pics. I wonder if they're going to watermark them?

Can’t wait to explore the site

The quality of the images is something, can’t wait to see the archive once the search feature is up and running. This looks like one of those sites that will deserve regular visits over time as they get more images cataloged and available over the web.

I really feel for all of those soldiers who had to be outside all the time, in winter, working with freezing, and ice-cold metal. Those poor guys in that photo look COLD! I wonder what the temps were hitting that day? (sorry, I went a little off topic here)

I'm looking forward to seeing photos added to that site. I even emailed my Aunty (who was stationed Newfoundland) and sent her the link, in case she has some photos, or there are family photos from her brothers or anyone else she knows, who served. You never know what photos people have tucked away in the attic or old trunks in the cellar :)

This is very good news. I'm some what of a Canadian WWII photo hunter myself... can't wait for more images to become available online.

Good News. I often wonder why the Merchant Navy is not included in these things.

Faces of War

Geoff:
Having always had a great interest in photography dating back to my first box brownie that I paid a dollar for, and now today we have camera's with 10 mgs. The photos from WW2 and Iraq surely will give us some excellent resolution detail. This is a site I will truly look forward to.
Geoff it would be great if MLU could set up our own photo gallery on the History of past and modern warfare. I am sure that many of the chaps on MLU would have many great photos of there fathers and grandfathers from WW2 and it would also give us a more personal touch with some of those who have long since past. Photos dispaly so much information if you look at their detail closely.

Norm,

Thanks for the thought... I have considered this before. The trouble is, the goddam spammers and purveyors of filth will find the submit link and flood it with their despicable crap. Why don't I start a photo thread for this here on the forum? I have a couple to contribute as well....
