Out West
 

Last month I had the pleasure of attending a live firing exercise at CFB Suffield with 4th Air Defence Regiment. The aim of the ex was to practice troop level deployment, live fire against drones and ground targets (both long distance and local).

I must say, the weather was interesting. Here is Suffield in the morning:

Are those vehicles ADATS and/or MMEWS related?

What did you think of the landscape around Suffield? That's about as desolate as it gets, isn't it? In a dry summer the gophers have to pack a lunch to get from one blade of grass to the next. I go by there in the winter when I haul my barley to feedlots in southern Alberta.

Yes to both. The photo above shows ADATS. However, there was one demonstrator vehicle (see http://www.mapleleafup.org/forums/sh...hlight=mystery) present that the OEM calls a Multi-Mission Effects Vehicle (see article and photo at http://www.oerlikon.ca/pub/capabilities/adats.jsp).

I will check with the OEM to see if I can post the "results" of their shoot.

I loved it! Navigation was real easy "drive to the tree, hang a left, drive till sunup and there you are - nowhere.

Truthfully, I appreciate why folks live out west. I loved the landscape, the wildlife and the destruction of targets. It was tempting to try for employment in Calgary, but home beckoned and Bob Carriere threatened to sell my CMPS...

Now, I am just one of those "Eastern Bastards" again...pity.
