Computer help!
I know this is off topic but I thought I'd ask anyhow.
I have my old pc system which runs Windows XP. It has been dormant for a while and I have forgotten my password to login to the system. As XP has multiple user accounts with only one being the administrator, I need to login to add, remove or change programs. I want to retrieve some info off of the system but am kind of shafted at this point unless someone can tell me how to 'break in' so I can either remove my admin status or change my password. many thanks! |
password repair

Hi Chris
You don't have to use the repair modus. Press F8 when the Computer starts, choose something like "Safe Mode". The PC will start with a reduced screen menu. When the PC has started, press the Start-Button, choose Systems, the User-Accounts. Now you can change your passwords. Hope this helps! cu Chris |
Thank you very much, I'll give it a try and see what happens... Once again the MLU forum comes to the rescue thatnks to it ever-knowing members and sharing community!

Hi. I'm glad you started this thread Chris as it's of interest to me. I hope you manage to get into your computer!
I was wondering what to do if I ever forget my password, so good thread and thanks for starting it! Another thing, I also have Win XP Pro ... and when I first got it I tried to change the user name to my own name etc, and ended up with a few user accounts and when I delete one to try and get down to just an admin and a guest account, I seem to lose track of whatever I saved etc ... I wonder if there is a way to clearly "merge" all of the accounts into one main one so that only one account is actively. Finding files and things is a nightmare task on my machine :bang: I really am not great on computer at all!!! Karmen |
@Karmen
Just copy the different "My Folders" into your Admin Folder. Make a backup and delete the unused accounts. KISS (Keep it short and simple ;-) Or copy all My Folders into the account you use most, make this account as an admin and delete the others. cu Chris |
