Acco perkins transplant
 

Just wondering if anyone has had experience transplanting a Perkins 6.354 into an army acco? I've been told it will bolt straight in - does this mean it will it match up to the existing petrol 282 bellhousing and flywheel?

I had a mate that was going to do it to his Mk.5, but he had to sell it before he was able to do it.

I have seen a few accos for sale with perkins engines installed, so it can't be too difficult.

You need to obtain the perkins and bellhousing out of an Acco that was equipped with that type of engine .
This will make the conversion basically just a swap.

G,day Sam I,ve fitted a perkins 6-354 to the army Inter,I sugest dropping the rear engine/gearbox crossmember down 40-50mm as the rocker cover will foul the fibreglass engine cover.I also fitted the T-34 gear box so 5th gear was over drive. Tony :salute:

You wouldn't fit a Holden red motor in a jeep or a Chrysler motor in you Weapons Carrier or a Perkins in your GMC...so why oh why bugger up an ACCO?????? :confused :confused :confused

I am going to do the same thimng but the 354 I have is a vacuumn brake system so I have to tramsfer the airpump to the Perkins,
Did you have to do this and if so how did you?

G,day Pete,You can remove the vac. pump from the perkins and fit a direct coupled compressor in it's place.You will need a longer coupling as the one from the vac. pump is to short ,all this gear can be purchased from any major truck wrecker.the compressor gets it's lubrication from the engine lube system and drains back through the base of the compressor,hope this is some help to you Tony :salute:
