Oil Pressure Gauge
 

Seeking some information .
When a Blitz 216 low oil pressure engine is replaced by a higher oil pressure engine . Is there a gauge that will fit into the same cluster ( early 13 cab ) but handle up to 60 psi.
What has happened in the past ?

hi jim i have just heard this week from a chev guy i know that they install a reducer in the oil line so as to not blow the oil gauge up,it reduces from 60lbs to 40lbs i am told

I bet this will be a problem when I fire up my CMP also - please keep us informed. I suspect that the Ottawa Rotters should also take heed - to save soiling one's trousers on the first fire up of the truck when the dash is installed.

I had considered putting in a Flathead Ford to replace the 216 as they seem to struggle to get to 25 psi, but that didn't really see the right thing to do to the old truck!

....now to remember, and remember to remind the others as required, and let the others remind me as required. I think I will put an older Smiths mechanical guage that I had adapted into a 1976 VW Rabbit out tonight to remind myself.

... there are a lot of mechanical oil gauges available in sizes that will match the CMP dash holes.....

Check Princess Auto........ granted you may have to paint OD over the chrome trim but the price is right.....

Speaking of blowing oil lines......

When I first primed the oil passages on my 261 I used a 3/8 high torque drill..... the crankcase had been over filled with oil and the filter connected by clear vinyl lines to the side of the block. It was nice to see the oil surge into the twin spin on filters and come out the other side back to the engine...... then poof...... none of the external 1/2 vinyl lines had been secured with clamps....... about two quarts of oil spilled all over the floor.... refilled..... installed clamps and repeated the drill priming trick..... except this time I installed a cheap Princess Auto mechanical oil pressure gauge.... I was amazed that I could maintain 42 psi of oil pressure.

Now the oil pump spin at half the speed of the crank so at 2000 rpm the pump would rotate approx at 1000 turns.... my drill probably puts out more like 2000rpm...... which would explain the substantial reading on the gauge.

I would suggest that one needs to visit the local auto parts store for over the counter mechanical oil pressure gauges that will fit the CMP size dash holes....
