This long weekend is open day at Newport.
The shed in this pic still exists. Wonder if under the dust in a corner.............................

Newport workshops

I have been told that they still use trolleys with Bren Carrier wheels. I wonder if there is any track?

lost track

Beter still see if the moulding plugs for the track are in the foundry. The Ipswich Rail Museum & workshops up here lost their foundry, all that is left is some of the moulds on display. Perhaps the moulds are still around....

Still there almost exactly as it was.
Only some buggers knocked off all those shiny new carriers.

All of the sheds have beautifully arched doorways except the one where military gear was assembled. It was modified during the war to allow egress of the landing craft they were constructing inside.

Great pics there, it's good to know those old buildings are still standing and accessible. The modified entrance is very similar to some still to be found at the Ford plant in Geelong. The old rail lines can still be seen too, although they have been filled in for safety requirements.
