2" Mortar British/Canadian

Hello
Does any one know where I can get the dimensions of the 2" mortar. I am trying to make up a replica for a display I am making. Any help would be appreciated.

Many thanks
John

John, why make a replica when you can buy the real deal right here in Ontario???

Many thanks

Have you contacted Collectors Sorce in Acton ON? I know that Fred had a bunch of these not too long ago complete in transit case. I think they were around $800.
He would be the go to guy on the Lewis mag as well but be prepared as original Lewis mags are an arm and a leg...
canadiangunnutz.com is another alternative as well for your search

hi john

chris has given some very sound advice. i would like to add to what chris has said, but i only do so as a heads up. personally, i feel that the current laws involving guns, gun parts, and military ordnance such as motars, grenade launchers, bazooka's, and other stuff important to collectors and re enactors is total fubar.
as it stands, replica's are prohibited as is their manufacture, but the real deal, which has been de activated is o.k. also, and with the exception of .22rf, semi auto magazines must be blocked to five rounds in capacity. i can only assume this extends to full auto as well. as much as it makes me cringe to say the above, i say it with "cover your ass" in mind because on paper, the law obiding citizen's and collectors are the criminals, while for the real thugs, it's life as usual. although i don't have the act in front of me, i think that items of larger bore, such as a 2" mortar, would be subject to the controlled goods act, which as of lately, has been causing some problems for some people. if you join the forum that chris suggested, go to the search function and type in "milkor", and be prepared for lots of reading. hopefully with a majority in ottawa, some of this crap will be relaxed and funds will be funneled into getting the real criminals for a change.

John, Ohio Ordnance has demilled 2" mortars for sale for $150.00usd and they are importable to Canada. I know of at least one MLUer in Canada that has bought one. I can send you detailed pics of mine with measurements if you still want to make one. Let me know, Derek.

hey derick
do you paypal or do you want the $9 this next weekend? :D

also the ohio ord 2in mortars are considered title I firearms in the US. yes the brl is demilled but the ATF considers the base to still be a live gun due to the fact that it was not demilled. its a gray area but both mortars i have were transfered on the evile yellow form. just a word of caution.

Cash is always good!

I'm not familiar with the "evil Yellow Form", what is it? I bought two mortars from Ohio Ordnance. I didn't have to send a copy of my C.& R. or fill out any forms , nor was there any paperwork with the mortars, save receipts. Is the "evil yellow form" something that the seller keeps so there is a record of the sale or something else? The firing mechanism seems to work, although they have welded over the firing pin so it can't make contact with any cartridge. That plus a large hole in the side of the chamber and a rod across the muzzle completely prevents the mortars from being used ever again. One of the mortars I sold to someone in Canada with absolutely no problems whatsoever. Were your mortars demilled the same as mine?

alleramilitaria 11-03-07 18:35

yea
when i got mine from sarco the lower section was welded to the tube and the tube was cut. BUT the reciever was not cut and it still cocks and "fires". so i had to have it sent to a gun shop and fill out the standard ATF form for it, both times.

as long as the reciever still works then the weapon is still a weapon. ow well things change and the atf may have removed it from the list. i am going to get another while i still can.

Most of the Canadian mortars weren't demilled at all. We don't really control the (US terminoligy here) destructive devices. That said, however, there is a controlled goods department which is now starting to find it's teeth.
I have a 2" mortar launcher which I got from K&M 7 years back. The origional ballistite cartridges can be found from cartridge collectors, or made up from 28 guage shotgun shells. The empty para cases, or sandfilled rounds are great for shooting.
That said, you would likely need a import permit these days if you are bringing one in.
As to the empty rounds, it is now against Canada Post regulations to mail ordnance, so when customs X-rays the package and sees them, you are likely going to lose them.

If collectors source still has any of these, they are a great buy. Although the firing pins have been cut down, they make a great display, and the transit chest is a nice accessory to boot.
