Nice work Cliff!

I am really looking forward to following this project. For my F60H model I wanted to scratchbuild the grill from mesh initially, but recently I came across a photo-etch set from Eduard which has a terrific Ford grill with badge, a Ford dash and also a Chev grill and dash in one set ! Even the "Ford" and "Ford Canada" stampings below the headlights are included. Allthough I am not a big fan of Photo-etch, this is really a worthwile set.

regards,

Alex

Alex could you give me the Eduard Part number please. I may order some of these if they are correct as it is a pain making my own and as I already have to buy PE mesh it would not be all that much more expensive.

Cheers
Cliff :)

Alex van de Wetering 21-03-07 13:27

Cliff,

The Eduard number is: TP037. I have just made a scan of the set, which also includes printed clear plastic sheets for the dash gauges. I will send the scan to your email.

Amazing detail, Cliff! Only observation is you'll need to delete the vertical roller on the right.

rollers

Hi Cliff,
Now that you have removed the roller on the right I think you had it right from the start as Keiths No9, the AWM's No9 frame & a factory pic in the DMV book all show 2 vertical roller. :confused
Whats your thought Keith?

But yes, you're right that does look like one on the factory pic... but if you look at other fairleads they only have the roller on the left side. :confused

Keith, I see a pattern forming maybe if 3 out 200 odd then was this a early or late addition? still :confused

Keith Webb 17-04-07 03:05

One, two or none?

That is the question!

:D I love these field mods as no one can say at the finish of the build that I made it wrong with 100% certainty :yappy:

I have removed the roller to match the photo I was using but kept the parts just in case :)

I will put another part up soon as I am two steps ahead of part 07 with the build and have just completed the floor section.

Cheers
Cliff :)

Keith I fixed the winch/floor problem the way I told you via email.

I think it was 100-odd No9 Fords, about the same number of No8 Fords, same again for No8 Chevs and of course 2 No9 Chevs.

The main change to the No9 was the deletion of the gallows AALMG mount on the Chev version along with canvas doors. I've not seen a Ford without the gallows mount or with anything other than steel doors.

Second roller

Hi Cliff,
Now you have a spare roller, don't let it go to waste how about making a second model of a CGT for me. :D

I just had a look at your log again, great work! I also saw a sneak-preview of the wheels you will be using; Italeri CGT wheels?

Besides, the Chevy tanker is also really good!

Thanks Alex. No the tyres and wheels are not Italeri Gun Tractor but they are off a Tomy copy of that kit which had rubber tyres and seperate rims. I modified them and cast them in resin.

With the spare rubber tyres I cut them down to 16" in 1/35 scale and made the rims to suit so I had better looking wheels and tyres for the smaller trucks as well.

part 09 to the build log will be up tonight Oz time hopefully.

Heres' a teaser for part 10 which will be put up next week. The cab roof is just placed for the photo and is again a modified Tomy Gun Tractor kit part.

Hi Cliff,

You are right, I should have said Tomy (or Peerless, MAX, Airfix etc.) I thought I recognized the tyres. Somewhere during it's life the CGT kit got plastic wheels in stead of rubber, but I also have an old Italeri offering which also used to have the rubber tyres, before they swopped them for plastic ones.

A few weeks ago I also made a set of 16 inch wheels using the same tyres:

I just had a look at your new update; very interesting! Great

Alex

Thanks Alex. Isn't it great how two people a world apart can come up with the same idea of making 16inch wheels from the rubber tyres of the same kit to improve on the plastic ones now supplied.

The saying of "great minds think alike" must be true. :)

Indeed. It get's even better if you consider that the rubber wheels we used, have been out of production for years!

Great work again Cliff. I am looking forward to the body!

Alex
