Carrier Book
Thought I'd give everyone a heads up on this book I am finally finishing. Some of you already are aware I have been researching this book but I am glad to say that it is about to be published. Have decided to self publish with printing being done by specialist book printer.
Called Universal Carriers, it is being published in July and will be 'launched' at Beltring where I will be taking my MkI* carrier this year. The book is in three volumes with the first two covering the range of the different carriers. The third deals with all the technical drawings and illustrations, veteran photographs and present restored carriers. These books are photographic and document based and the intention is to provide a comprehensive reference base for these great wee vehicles. Volume 1 will be published July this year, Volume 2 is scheduled for September and Volume 3 for December. Volume 1 covers Dragons, Cavalry, Scout, MG, OP, Bren, Universal, Loyd, Variants and Special Equipment. There are chapters on Engine, Communication Equipment and Armaments with a full WD Nos list plus other allocation lists I have come accross. T16, Windsor etc are in Volume 2 along with brief mention of LP carriers. What I would like for Volume 3 is a great photographic record of everyone's restored carriers. So please if you would like to have your carrier 'published' I'd really appreciate it if you could send me a quality photograph or high resolution .tiff file showing your vehicle, along with its and your details. Deadline is 1 July 2007. Apologies Geoff if this is in the wrong place! Nigel |
Finally!
Nigel,
Congratulations on your 'series'. Please put me down for 2 sets, and I shall get some pix of my machines when the snow finally melts for the last one. I am really looking forward to seeing these books! Best regards, Stewart |
Nigel
Please also put me down for a set. I too will send some pictures along once the weather gets better and when I get my wheels changed (just waiting for Stewart to get his garage cleaned up) |
Carrier books
Nigel, I too have been waiting. You can put me down for a set.
Any Kiwis wishing to order who might want to "go in" with me, just let me know. |
carrier books
Yeah Lynn , I'm in with the books thankyou, and most probably a few xtras for the local boys as well I would imagine. David.

Likewise me too.
Looking forward to detailed up to date info on carriers!
Nigel will you have the LP series too? There are many errors in the books published in the northern hemisphere, and David Fletchers book ignores them! Rob |
Nigel,
I am interested in vol 2 relating to the T16 carrier. Regards Mike |
The books!
Thanks guys for your comments/support. Sorry this book has been a long time coming but a variety of circumstances like an operation, loss of a close friend and warehouse fire put it back somewhat. Still its here and does contain lots of information which will put a few things straight, make us all look at our carriers again! (me included!) and be amazed at what went on in the carrier world during the conflicts.
As far as the LP carriers are concerned Rob my research and chapters on these are from the standpoint from over here I'm afraid. The information I found over here. I don't think a vehicle historian should write in depth about vehicles unless he has been to the country they were made in, and unfortunately I couldn't make it to Australia and new Zealand. I am also trying to establish a network for sending books abroad and distributing them from the country so as to reduce shipping costs. Also some form of discount for MLU, carrier owners and of course veterans as these books are 350 or so pages, but until I get my final costs this has to wait. There will be a web site from which you can access the books from or come to Beltring this year. Will keep MLU posted and if you have any hopes or ideas which you would like to see in a Carrier Book then fire away and I'll see if it's covered (which I hope it will be!) Nigel |

Chris, Pardon a moi. Australians tend to be poor at French, even worse than the English! I'll just call it a "Sales Tent" and be done with it. Doesn't sound half as classy, though. Salesman Bob will have to work hard on his image.

Nigel,
Send me an e-mail to clive@servicepub.com (PMs don't get through) and we'll talk about a quantity order. |

Strewth, Bob (aka Marquis de Vendeur), I do wish you'd include a link to Babelfish when you go off like that! :confused Must be something to do with your "Gift of the Notch".
In English (Courtesy of Babelfish): "Mr Smith, image is something which I do not have need to work above. I have all the pazzaz and gift of the notch to being able to sell snow to the Eskimos. Mr. Watson would be more than welcome on the international commercial table of the Salesman Bob' s." |
Corowa 2008
So Tony are the dates yet established for this event?

I guess your Babelfish isn't as good as mine. It's "Gift of the Gab" not "Notch". Bob |

Beltring
Les thanks. Well my transport is all booked for Beltring along with my stall and living history group. I have started a Desert Vehicle Crew Living History Group called the Desert Platoon who depict the life of the crewmen and their vehicles during the desert campaigns of 1939-43. We are transporting 5 vehicles down and have booked a display area. Also the Carrier Book will be available from our stall called The Bottomless Sporran (don't ask!!). The stall number I am still waiting for.
So will hopefully be able to meet up with you, and others then. Thanks again Nigel |
Hey Nigel,
Count me in on a set of the books as they get published. Likely have a bunch of other collectors and vehicle restoration people here in Texas in my group that would be interested as well so might be able to do a small bulk purchase of each title and then they can be shipped together and I can distribute them. Will be watching for your first completion announcment and we can work out details then :) |
