Bedford MWR Tools
Hi Guys,
I am looking to try and collect the tools that would of been issued with the truck and also where they would of been stowed inside the cab, has anybody any pictures of the correct jack in particular, all I have is the illustration in the drivers manual, but it is a bit vague. Thanks for you help. Mike |
I'll get onto it in a minute, I have the jack, sadly minus the handle, and some of the war grade Vauxhall spanners made for certain aspects of the engine. Most of my wartime tools have little to no use on a Bedford, but its a nice little collection, nonetheless.

Hi Nick,
Thanks for your reply and pictures,at least now I know what to look out for when it comes to the jack and spanners, have to get to a few more autojumbles.... I found an old what I think is an early jeep jack in my garage over the weekend, it was left over from when I sold a jeep I had a couply of years ago, not sure what its worth though, any Idea?? its the same basic design as the bedford where the drive for the lifting ram is near the base.it comes with the collapsable handle All the best Mike |
Jeep jack
Hi Mike,
I wouldn't know the worth of a jeep jack, but I'd be prepared to say that it is like a lot of things jeep related, in that as soon as you mention the j word, you have a sale. The Bedford jack goes in the locker at the back of the truck, and everything else is supposed to fit in the compartment behind the passenger, including the side screens. With a wireless set up as well, I reckon the fuel consumption of a fully laden MW went from nice to AAARRGGHH!!! Nick |

Not forgetting the fact that my Bedford comes with battery charging petrol generator on the drivers step and the pto dynamo.
First trip out will be the C.O.A.M. ( village at war event) at the end of May, a nice little 80 mile each way trip..... never driven the truck before as I bought it as a non runner 6 months ago. Mike |
Bedford QL petrol tank = £85 -£90 to fill. Been there, and watched as my local Dartmoor petrol station used up all that was left of the LRP in the tank. Thats with nothing in the back. Dread to think what a fully laden QL would go through. Or worse, the Bofors tractor. Scrub that, any other variant other than D and T, really. Thats the biggest pooper with the UK, in (vintage) vehicle terms, fuel costs.
Good luck with the MWR, always good to see them about (my first truck was/is an MW). The plan for next year is a strip down, maybe some wood replacement, and a lot of painting. Again. Nick |
Bedfords in OZ

I have seen a few MW Bedfords here in OZ over the years . As far as I know , nobody has ever attempted to restore one here . They are usually found in a dreadful state , just the chassis and mechanical bits surviving , woodwork long gone .
The most complete one around , the Belfield unrestored example, sold for some inflated price last year , around 11k dollars from memory. In the UK , it would have fetched around 2K pounds as it needed completely restoring . It is the only MW I have seen with original woodwork still intact . This one was sitting in Stackpooles yard , over near Ararat ? What became of it ? Mike |
