Driving a CMP...

...I would not have had this problem with my Lad Rover. The turbocharger was blown of and obviously there is some more damage at the engine as well

Oh dear.
I had a similar problem with my 3 year old TDi Disco many years ago. It had about 70,000km when I bought it and 2 weeks later it just stopped. Turned out to be the timing belt had broken which fortunately was repaired under warranty. This was a known fault with the 300 TDi.
I loved driving it and almost everything about it except for reliability. It constantly had one problem or another from the security system to oilseals to water pump to the ABS. :mad: I now drive a DiD Pajero which hopefully will be a more reliable package. |

Yes, but this one died 30,000k before the recommended replacement. The mechanics I spoke to told me the timing belt on early 300 TDi had some lateral movement abrading the edges which resulted in the early failures. There was a mod done to overcome this. Those Discos are still a relatively common sight on the back of a flatbed. |

Yes, I recall that problem now, i'd quite forgotten about it actulally as most vehicles have been modified nowadays. I looked at buying one that has recently been rebuilt because a snapped belt had lunched the engine. Pity I couldn't afford it as it was in good nick and cheap, but I couldn't bring myself to sell one of the other landies to buy it ;) Ok, end deviation :yappy: |

Luckily it did not happen at the place I was just one day before. I would say, that in such a case you could only burn your car and "create" another "Desert Wreck" :smoker:
