Well guys, here is the result of todays trip, I finaly found what I was looking for it has taken a few trips to locate this carrier, quite a change in country I am used to looking in more arid regions, anyway enjoy, Can you see what I was looking for,I had walked past it a couple of times,

The owner told me that his father fitted this carrier with a two man tank gear box that came into Australia after the war from New Guinea anyone have any ideas ?

Manged to jack it up so that I can move it sideways

Notice the small oil cooler, and the piece of railway line on the front,also you maybe able to see the cleats welded to the track to give it better traction

I found the remains of one of the bins under the carrier will be interesting to see what else is lying in the bush close by,

Ron, it looks as you described it, the transmission , chaind & reduction boxes are unknown to me, looks similar to a Stuart g/box, both cover & location of the levers but I don't know if the chains suit. Bizzare machine indeed...

Gearbox
 
I could be wrong, but if it's from a two man light tank it could be from a Marmon-Herrington. A few found their way to Aust during the war and used as training vehicles. Eventually they were all scrapped for parts. Mate, if it is from a M-H, there wouldn't be many around...........
