ACCO's

As some of you know I run the Registry of Ex Military Land Rovers website (www.remlr.com). With increasing interest from members in ACCO's and their close working relationship with land rovers i've decided to add a small ACCO section to REMLR.

So basically i'm after any information that is out there from dates, changes, numbers, photos, anything really. I've got some information and info, but more is always welcome.

Richard

I was up at Maydena the other day, and in the middle of town in a builders yard was a ACCO.

Did not look in bad condition, but the yard was locked and I could find no one around.

Still registered

Do you know about this one.

Regards

Col

ACCOs

Hi Richard

I have a few Vietnam pics on my site:

http://www.oldcmp.net/Images/Vietnam...my/Accos_4.jpg

There is a page here, and there's even a Landy pic here.

Col, I don't know of that one myself (although my mother grew up in maydena), but somebody from the Military Vehicle Group Tasmania may well know about it as they are southern based.

Better not tell one of the guys in my club (Defence Transport Heritage of Tas), he is an ACCO tragic, although he only has a M37 at the moment.

Keith, I saw that you had a few photos, do you mind if I use a few of them?

No probs, just attribute them and add a link to the page on my site please.

Easy done

Now to find the information, because other than what is held in these pages on MLU, there isn't a lot out there (part of the reason i'm doing it I guess!)

Book

Iveco published a book in Australia last year which was a history of the ACCO which was distributed to dealers. I'd recommend having a chat to your nearest Iveco dealer to see whether he has a copy.

I onlt just found a post mentioning that, I'll have to follow that up.

ACCO for sale

Phoenix, have you seen this?
It's in WA:http://cgi.ebay.com.au/INTER-ACCO-AR...QQcmdZViewItem
Cheers

phoenix 20-06-07 01:13

It's a Mk.3 not a Mk.4 as far as I can tell, but it would be an excellent project if the rust hasn't got to too much of it. Pity i've got enough projects for now, an acco would be an excellent addition to my collection!

phoenix 20-06-07 06:48

I thought that i'd share this photo that was sent to me today of a prototype ACCO on trials with the ADE.

I know that the Blitz had this configuration, but I never even heard that the ACCO trialed it as well!!

Interesting pic, Phoenix. Note the No5 trailer has the early "high" wheelarches as seen on the Bamford Ambo trial pics. Interesting caption opportunity, "Why is the officer banging his fist on the Landy?"

High arch trailer: (I've never seen one of these in the flesh, I wonder if they were modified to the later standard arch?)

Standard wheelarch No5 Trailer:

phoenix 21-06-07 01:03

Being as the photo is from the 1960 ambulance prototype trials, and the bulk of the No.5 Trailers were built much later in the 60's, i'd say that the trailer was in fact a prototype as I can't imagine a No.5 doing that with the chassis it has.

Also, the book that the iveco dealers have (or at least what I presume is the same one about the acco's) is on it's way to me now from pitstop books.

phoenix 21-06-07 01:53

Well I ordered the ACCO book yesterday afternoon, and it arrived from WA this morning

phoenix 25-06-07 04:57

For those of you who are interested, the bascs of the ACCO page is now online.

http://www.remlr.com/ACCO/

I'll be adding to it as time, information and images are available.

Col Tigwell 25-06-07 09:29

A good job you have done there lad. To what some would think boring, they deserve to have a place in the history books.

They were the work horses for the army for many years.

Did not the Air Force have some.

Regards

Col

phoenix 25-06-07 09:36

The air force has always been a tough one to trace vehicel history. Same problem with the land rovers, we know almost all the vehicles that the Army used, but very little about the RAAF.

Same story with the acco's, although i've not seen anything of the RAAF using them, I think the standardisation of vehicles only happened with the introduction of the Land Rover 110 Perentie and Unimog.

Talking about high mounted guards on Landy GS trailers....you love this.

phoenix 26-06-07 01:02

I saw the other post pedr, I might have to add that to the ACCO chapter!

phoenix 01-10-07 05:46

Keith, on this page,

http://www.imagecontrol.com.au/oldcmp/vietland_1.html

you have a photo of a 6x6 acco crane, turns out it's actually a drilling rig.

phoenix 03-12-07 06:08

Well the registration numbers are slowly finding their way onto the ACCO chapter

http://www.remlr.com/ACCO/

on the ACCO ARN page. Mostly Mk.4's so far, but there is a lot of work in transcribing them onto the website from photos of the ARN books.
