Happy Dominion Day!
1 Attachment(s)
This day in 1867 saw the formation of the union of the British North America provinces in a federation under the name of Canada, through the invocation of the British North America Act. The initial provinces involved were Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. The others joined the Dominion over time, with the last being Newfoundland, in 1949.
In Newfoundland, July 1st is also a poignant day, for they honour their fallen of the Newfoundland Regiment of 1 July 1916, the first day of the battle of the Somme. At Beaumont Hamel, 778 went over the top, and within 30 minutes, 710 had been killed, wounded or went missing. When the roll was called the next morning, some 68 were on parade. What some us still recognize as 'Dominion Day' was changed by government edict to 'Canada Day' in 1982. In honour of all who have come before, both the standing and the Fallen, who collectively have made this country what it is, I present the flag of the Dominion of Canada. :salute: :remember :support |

Jif,
There were 3 'old' flags flying in the annual parade thru Preston, Ontario. This year Jordan Baker joined Charlie Fitton and myself and some of the HLI Normandy platoon fellows. It was a clear, cool afternoon with a bit of a breeze - just the thing for mechanized vehicles made 60 odd years ago. Stewart |

Here's what I was doing tonight. I was asked to help out with the CMP's annual Sunset Ceremony - which includes the Musical Ride. I portrayed a mountie of the North-West Mounted Police (NWMP), circa 1880.

To all you Aussies and Yurrupeens wondering what all these bloody Canucks are doing online this time of day, today is a long weekend for us in celebration of 'Canada Day'. Some of us get Monday August 6th off too, as a civic holiday, then September 3rd as 'Labour Day'. The latter marks the traditional end of the summer holidays and a return to school for anklebiters of all ages.
Does this make us spoiled? :p |

Error of omission or commission? Good to see that the Gunner "spawn" is still thriving. |
