New CD-ROM from Service Publications
Service Publications has just released a new CD-ROM showing over 1,000 official production photos of CMPs, MCPs, Carriers and AFVs, made by GM and Ford during the Second World War.
http://www.servicepub.com/images/cdcoverfactory.gif This is available on-line at Service Publications. This CD has had the valuable input of Ford Canada Archives as well as photos from the private collections of MLU'ers Brian Gough, Keith Webb and Bruce Parker. Some of you will remember the Ford photos were shown on my web-site for a short time about 2 years ago. Others who attended BB1 in 2006 will have seen some of the actual prints. For the first time these two series have been brought together in a single medium. Price is CDN$29.95 plus shipping. |
... looks good, what's the resolution/size of the images? How can you navigate the pics, got a menu? In a ordinary Browser?
Thank you Chris |
Good questions. The navigation is accomplished via 16 thumbnail images per page. There are 41 "pages" of Ford images and 26 "pages" of GM photos. Each "full size" image is 650 pixels wide. The galleries are set up using Photoshops Web Gallery function. The file names are the actual photo number which is included in the scan. For the GM photos, I also scanned the paper indices and thes have some additional information of use to the CMP fan.
The browser is built-in to the CD so no external software is required. Works with Windows only although the individual images can be opened in a Mac as they arestandard JPG format. Best viewed with your monitor set to 1024 x 768. BTT. I notice that many posts that are made over the weekend just disappear by Monday so I am bringing this back.

Comments on Factory Photo CD
1. I like it.
2. The empasis is on the earlier trucks, but still of value to people looking for info on Cab 13 trucks. 3. It answers quite a few questions I had about how things were laid out (among others, derrick truck winches). 4. It also raises a lot of new puzzles for me. 5. It doesn't matter if you prefer Ford or Chev, look at both types to see body details. 6. For me, it is value for money. |
The topic is very old, but still I dare to ask. Is there still an opportunity to purchase this CD-ROM? Interested in cars of the MCP series.

This was Clive Law's web site. The contact information appears to be for people in Toronto who have taken over at least the book sales part of Clive's operation. I don't know them but suggest they would be a good next point in your search. I see many of Clive's books listed on their site but didn't see the CD. |
If the new owners are on here I have tried to contact them and no returned calls or emails. sad

I believe it is Dave Hiorth who took on the inventory of Servicepub. He can be reached at Military Antiques Toronto, also known as Army Outfitters.
Dave is a long time member of the military collectors club of Canada...not sure he is a vehicle collector. |
Thanks to everyone for the answers. Where can I find information on Canadian MCP cars?
