Rota trailers
Funny how something you have never heard of before is suddenly presented from multiple sources. I had never heard of a Rota trailer before until reading:
"GO TO IT" The Illustrated History of the 6th Airborne Division by Peter Harclerode. Where the Rota trailer is mentioned and then in quick succession Rota trailers are listed as cargo on the S.S. Fort Halkett. Does anyone have photos and specs of this trailer? An internet search came up empty. Interestingly, units of the 6th Airborne Division employing the Rota trailer filled the tyres with petrol as a means of taking more fuel into the field. I could imagine the conflagration when a Rota trailer carrying explosives was hit by enemy fire! |

This may of be of help.
I read somewhere they were not popular as the fuel contained in the wheel units would leak. David Fletchers book, The Great Tank Scandal has a nice rear view of the fuel pump and stowage, on page 118. George |
