Ram Tank Models

I have received the following in email and I'm wondering if any of you modeling chaps can help this fellow out. I'll pass him this URL so he can track it as he wishes (and copy this to the Sergeants' Mess).

Thanks,

Jif

Thanks for your excellent information on the RAM kangaroo. I am a history teacher and model maker and I am in the process of making a diorama of Canadian military vehicles used in the Battle of the Rhine. Do you know where I would be able to find a 1/35th scale model of a RAM Kangaroo or a RAM tank that I could modify into a Kangaroo?

You could try...

Resicast or S Model. But I believe there are dimensional issues with both.
The other option is Formations hull which is the later Ram without the MG turret. But you would need to scratch build the interior here.
Formations is the best of the three. No connection with manufacturer.
I would have posted a picture of mine but don't know how.

Cheers
Kevin

It looks like the Formations kits may be a better starting point because they are based on the late model Rams as the Kangaroos used by 1st CAPCR.

Thanks Kevin (you too, John!). Kevin, rather than going through the exercise at the moment (I can and will later), why don't you just email me your photo(s) and let me post them on your behalf? sunray@mapleleafup.org

The Verlinden set is probably the worst starting point (that's the one I used for the model for Hanno). It is 6mm too short and 2mm to narrow, turret ring way too small etc. etc.

The story is that S-model has copied (or partly copied) the Verlinden hull, so that one has problems too.

There also used to be one from H&K or something. But, the story is that this one copied the flaws of the ones above.

The Resicast Roo used to have some issues, but they are currently working on a fully new master. They are/were the only one to offer a Kangaroo with interior.
The formations set is good indeed and they might just also do a Kangaroo.

They are not perfect photos I know but I hope it helps.
