Brian and I were being "wet backs" and working without papers on the beach at Camperduine in Holland. Our pay was room and board and the odd Amstel. Dirk, in all his generosity, felt that we should have a day off so we visited another friend, Ruud Francissen and toured the ship Batavia. Now with the rule,"no work, no food" we had to source out a typical Dutch supper on our way home. We languished in the typical Dutch restaurant, taking our time , watching the ladies , eating our food and then proceeded back to Dirk's. Dirk greeted us at the door with "you just missed Hanno, where have you been? He waited over an hour." What a disappointment. We explained that we had been taking our time and had supper at MacDonalds.   Thankfully Hanno took the time to return the next evening and we kept him up until the wee hours talking. We had a great visit and caught up on all the gossip since the last time we met while in France. Geoff was there then, but unfortunately for him not this time, so we started a few rumors about him. Thanks to Hanno for making the drive twice and returning home very late.
This photo is of Hanno getting his grab bar via Bruce, Jiff and I don't know who else. Cheers, Barry |

Thanks for posting these pics Barry. It was nice to see you and Brian again. Funny to see how one cannot see each other for years and then hit it off straight away again. Next time you're here I hope I can make it to Beltring as well. Would like to see you running in the wild instead of constrained by our good beach comber. I can fully understand you stayed out for while once you got the chance. Never know when the next chore comes up, eh? At least you are still smiling in the picture.
Thanks for making some time for me (it did get late, didn't it). It was all over the news the day of your departure was the busiest of the year at Amsterdam Airport, so I hope the flight back wasn't too bad. Special thanks to Brian for hand carrying the roof hatch grab handle from Canada to Holland! Cheers, Hanno |
