The attached photo is running in one of the Axis History Forum quizzes on Allied and Neutral equipment.

Thus far, I have gotten it to the point where the poster says it is some sort of limited production India Pattern A/C based on a 1940 Ford chassis with MH running gear.

I have never seen a photo before of this vehicle and I am stuck.

Any of you chaps have an idea??

Wow, 46 views and no players!!!!!!

As this is an artist's rendering apparently and not a real photo of the vehicle, I wonder if it ever really existed.

Note that it uses standard 1940 Ford headlamp surrounds and what I feel are standard 1940 Ford passenger car or light truck wheels and tyres that are typically found on light duty Indian vehicles.

Such a mystery!!

Bill I have no idea what it is and have never seen another photo/artists impression of it either. :)

Hey Mate (Cliff)):

I have challenged the poster on AHF a bit based on the fact that the photo is a rendering, not a real photo.

He is a good Internet friend but I wonder if he posted one of those "phantom vehicle" photos that appear from time to time on the AHF quiz threads, which I have also done a few times over the years just for fun.

I have asked him to provide the "answer" as I am the only one over several days to try to solve the riddle and I cannot.

Cheers,
Bill

Hi there

According to BT White's 'Tanks and other AFVs of the Blitzkrieg Era 1939-41' its an Armoured Carrier, Wheeled, India Pattern Mk.I, based on an 113 1/2-in wb Ford chassis, fitted with an MH four wheel drive conversion. It adds only 10 were built and they never left India.

No photos but it would appear the illustrations come from White's book.
