The following pics show the progress that I have made since I stripped down the Marine engine...I am swapping the crank, connecting rods from the 8BA engine and putting them in the original block with the .0825 over sized pistons....while waiting for rings and con rod bearings I carried on the sheet metal work, cutting out cancer and welding in new panels and finishing off the rough stuff with fiberglass and glazing putty....when bored with working on the CMP I just switch to the MB ....

Well, it has been a fortnight and have had major work done to my puter....got a serious power surge and litterally lifted the tops off several capacitors on my mother board....ouch....after afew days and a bit o withdrawl everything is back to norm (wifey doesn't remember what norm is) :)
I could not wait to try out some paint to see how the old girl is going to look. I am continuing to tear-down the cab and have been refinished each part one by one. Once down to the frame I will drop in the drive train and finish off the brakes. Got a few parts coming from overseas and look forward to finishing them off. Hope the pics is ok.....New Color (Colour, Farbe, Tinte, Pineture) cheers Mike |

While I am waiting for connecting rod bearings and piston rings I continue to work on various parts in preparation for bolting it all back together for a final spash of paint.
Put up a protable garage to extend my working area and it makes a very good paint booth. still looking for a bush bar.....have tool box storage bin for Mk 1 Carrier for trade. cheers from Windsor...... Mike Timoshyk |

Bearings and Rings finally arrive

After a lengthy wait I finally have the Bearing and Piston Rings.
Today (this evening) I fitted the rings and con rod bearings....tomorrow the Crank. I will be coating the bearings with vasoline. This will give them good lubrication during the first start up. I have used this in the past also to "prime" oil pumps. It is great because it "mixes" well with lube oil and does not harm the engine. Works well in transmissions also. The pistons will be liberally soaked in motor oil prior to and during installation. This will also happen tomorrow.... |

OOOPS

Well, It was just going too smoothly for my own good. Came across my first real major snag. Having used the crank from the 8BA marine engine in the C69A block I never figured on the crank gear being set opposite of the cam gear....so back to the 8BA block and take the cam gear off and replace the gear on the C69A engine. No sweat.....went very smooth. Got all the pistons in with no problems....mains and con rod bearing all torqued and oil pan back on.....a friend drops by to see how I am doing. He asked a distributor question so I grab the crab dist cover and go to put it on the engine.....IT WON'T FIT OVER THE PULLY ON THE CRANK!!!!!!! Oh no....the pully configuration is different. Even the neck is longer.....can't do a straight exchange. Now I am going to have to remove the cam from the 8BA and remove the cam from the C69A and do a swap and remembering to change back the cam gear. Now I have to remove all the valves n stuff to pull the cam.....4 steps forward and 2 steps back.....there was no wine involved in this whole process....perhaps that was the initial problem:ergh:
