Thank you Paul!

I thought I should look up dates celebrated around the world and post them here too ... but was too tired ... hmmmm ... tired or not, am still awake and up yet again much later ... so again, thank you, you saved me the trouble as I'm still too tired :D

Interesting to see so many celebrate and on such varying dates ...

The New Moon one IS interesting ... maybe they chose the new moon as it represents new life, new start, new phase, beginnings, etc ... to various fileds of thoughts/beliefs and maybe spiritual or esoteric? I don't know where Bhadra is. And why September?

Meanwhile back in Melbourne

It was a fine day - sleep in until at least 6 (late for me), gifts from the children (latest book from Bill Bryson and 3x Top Gear DVDs), a really nice lunch had al fresco with a bottle of wine in the sun on the deck followed by high pressure washing of some parts from the molasses for the F15 project, prepping and priming same.

Add to this some quality time on MLU - doesn't get a lot better, eh?

A nice day for this father of four.

Re:- Father's Day

Karmen,

From what I can find Bhadra is a month of the Hindu calendar, and in the Indian civil calendar is the sixth month beginning on the 23rd August and ending 22nd September. In the Nepali calendar, it is the fifth month.

I also found that in lunar religious calendars, the monthy may begin on either the new or full moon around that date (I think :confused )

So that is possibly the connection, and it could be "moveable".

By the way, Father's day in Thailand is set as the day of the Monarch's birthday. (Another useless snippet to throw into a boring conversation) :D

Paul.

Well, Papa (four begets) Keefy has certainly had his Aussie Daddy Day spoilings, pleasant-ry, and fun ... :smoker:

Paul, I don't know anything much about "lunar calendar" except as related to moon phases, and perhaps lunar calendars used as guides for planting and harvesting, and of course, Astrology .

Moon also represents woman and womanly things such as womb ... that little kangaroo pouch in which a mate (or long needle?) sows seed into a shiela which she in turn holds within 'er, grows, then shoots out a baby kangaroo in nine months ... (he sows - she reaps- so does he in 9 months - )

I've heard it said that the best time to start new projects/phases is at a new moon ;) The birth of new child is what makes a man a father for the first time ever = NEW = NEW MOON? :D

I am intrigued about "why" the new moon for Bhadra Fathers Day as date though .... maybe I WILL do a bit of googling to see if I can come up with some explanations.

Was Thailands' Monarch a "God" father then? :D
