Have you ever gone back ?

In late 1945 and the whole of 1946 my unit, the 4th Queen's Own Hussars, was keeping the peace in Trieste.

In 2007, on our way to a week's holiday in Venice, my wife & I spent three days In Trieste and I was able to re-visit some of my old haunts.

Early one morning I visited Piazza Goldoni and was able to take this "before & after" photo.

The first photo was taken in 1946

Good job!

Great photos, Ron, thanks for posting them!

You are of course welcome to say as much or as little as you wish on MLU about your service, or about anything else for that matter. Make yourself at home!

:salute:

Photographs

...and needless to say, any related photos are very welcome as well! If you can't get them to post, send them to me for resizing as before.

WONDERFUL before and after photos Ron ... and I love the touch with you holding the photo showing the first photo. It must be so strange to go back and see things looking so new and modern but with so many old memories and seeing the way it was, in your mind. What contrasts! Again ... amazing.

More of the "Before & After" syndrome

Helped by Geoff & encouraged by Karmen I thought you might like to see another "before & after"

The scene is St.Marks Square in Venice 1945 & 2007

Hmmm...

Ron, I KNEW there was something about you when I saw your first Trieste pic... has anyone ever told you you look like Anthony Quayle (or rather 'Sir Anthony Quayle'), the talented English actor? To my mind you do, for whatever that's worth... :)

Ron Goldstein 09-09-07 06:08

Doesn't he look like whatshisname ?

Geoff

It looks like it is my role in life forever to look like whatshisname :bang:

I can't remember ever being compared to Anthony Quayle before, although I suppose I should be grateful that Boris Karloff wasn't mentioned :yappy:

On another website to which I post, someone considered that in my present octaganerian state I was a dead ringer for Ernest Hemingway

I give in :giveup
