LAAT Wanted
 

I guess this was going to happen sooner or later. The Bofors project is coming together quicker then I thought, so its time to start looking for a LAAT. Any leeds would be great on either side of the pond.

Sadly no, but she will sort it out soon I assume when she figures out there isn't a towing attachment on the back of the carrier. :-)

I was thinking that when I did get one, I was going to tell her it belonged to you and I had agreed to store it and do some work on it before you came to pick it up.

The secret is to have so much junk that there is no possible way a wife could keep track of it all. One more truck, shootn' iron or uniform can easily be passed off as something you've had "for years". You are just bringing it out of the bowls for a little spruce up. Another approach, if you have more than one of a certain item (or at least one of each mark and/or sub-mark with ***'s) is to ensure they are never seen all together (Brens and Stens are particularly dependent on this). Lastly, some months before considering a major acquisition, tell your lovely wife that, as much as you'd love to have one, they are rare to the point of unobtainable. When, unbelievably, one pops up you have no choice but to get it regardless of hardship. Failing all of this, buy them off with trips, jewelry, flowers. I'd stop short of the $8000 hot tub in the back yard though. Takes up truck space.

But jewellry is so useless. Heck, you could buy a dewat sten for the price of a gold and diamond earring set.

I think I have it down to a science here. After dragging home countless vehicles over the years, and littering the yard with 28 Iltis trailers last year, she hardly batted an eyelash when I accepted shipment of a halftrack for another forum member.
Mine is, fortunately, a capitalist at heart, so as long as the stuff goes out the door in the end for $1 more than it came in, she is OK with it. Of course, most of the stuff I can't part with, but don't tell her that.

Sure, the the whole 'Sten gun thing' was magic for her for a few weeks, but you know women, they always like to try new things.

The easy answer to THAT one is that it only goes out the door after YOU do (feet first, that is). There, conundrum solved! :D

Of course, then you have to hide the fact that your will leaves it all to your best mate, but no worries I'm sure for an enterprising chap like yourself...

I'm sunk anyhow on the whole Bofors thing. I bought my wife a garage door opener for her birthday and installed it for her. I think she now assumes she is going to be able to park inside the garage this winter beside the carrier. I really don't think she has grasped the whole idea of the Bofors and the carrier spending the winter together with her car outside.

I guess I wan't thinking...I should have bought her a block heater and an extension cord.

Why in gods name did you do that? You have created a bit of a problem for yourself. I'd have stuck with the earrings.

It also encourages them to spend more time in the yard, where they'd see when you are up to no good. On the other hand, if your storage is out of sight of the yard, keeping them close to home might save embarrasing questions. So many ways to lose, so few to win....

No problem there.....Christmas is just 3 months away.

Sounds awfully like a big shed in the backyard is in order. One big enough that it will house all of the future projects too.

So seriously...one place you might check for a LAAT (or rather a 13 cab, 30cwt winch-equipped 134" WB Chev with derrick or LAAT body) is the Ferret Club in Oshawa. I had such a beast that I sold to them many many years ago. It wouldn't be a pretty sight if it still exists at all. Some of the CMP's I sold them at the same time have been restored and others are still in their yard, so perhaps this one may still exist? Whether they would sell or trade is another matter.

Bruce, unless memory fails me completely, wasn't that the truck which had that huge A-frame lifter in the box?

This is the remains of a winch equipped 134" wb C30. There's a few little parts missing but that's a small problem for a dedicated individual.

Hope you find one they are out there i purchased a pair of them this time last year here in the UK. A F30 LAA and a F60S LAAT both trucks needing a lot of work tho ! Good Hunting.

Anybody in the know as to ballpark costs are to float something like that from England to Canada?

Not sure Brad is in the market for another project like this right now......seems like he has ferret on the mind.

Around 2003 it was about 1500 bucks from Portsmouth to Halifax on a Roro. But from there to the west was really pricey, unless you go pick it up.
