W.D. contract plates

Guys,

I have just bought a repro 'WD Contract plate' off a guy on e-bay, I intend to fit it to my 1944 Bedford MWR.

The plate has 2 areas that need to be stamped with certain numbers/letters

they relate to..

Chassis contract No.

Catalogue Ref No.

Can anybody advise what these numbers/letters should be, I do have the original chassis/rebuild plate on the truck which is on the passenger side chassis rail by the step, would some of this data be transfered to this small plate that would of been fitted inside the cab.

Thanks for any help,advice.

Mike,

If you have the post war WD number on the chassis plate, ie 00YR01 style, then you can initiate a search of the Key Cards at the RLC Museum, Deepcut. On the entry against your postwar number, will be the original WD census number. Then looking at the Chilwell Census number list for "B" vehicles, the Contract and Cat Ref numbers can be found.

Richard,

Thanks for the info, a little job for the winter months by the sounds of it..

I assume your original WD census number is already painted on your bonet or do you doubt its authenticity?

Neil,

I am not sure how authentic the census number is on the doors of the truck are, however the post war military 'number plates' are still on the truck, the civy plates are bolted on top of them.

In that case as others had said, a case of sending your money off to Deepcut to have a search done.

Unless you know already, if you post your current number we can obviously say if it is from a contract for a MWR.
