has anyone restored one?

i found a good hull and running gear, not shot up and no major rust problems with all the bins, the gun is cut and the brl is missing.

can you fit a more modern motor in it? and i was thinking of making it into a OP vehicle with the 2 brens mounted as per the issue info.

From the info you have given, it sounds like an ex-Portugese Sexton sold by SouthEast Equipment Co near Atlanta.

I don't pretend to know much about restoring these vehicles, but your clues should be to research early WWII AFVs like the M3 Grant. There will be some uniquely Canadian parts, but the SECO vehicles looked in good shape compared to range hard targets in UK.

yep they are the ones, they have 5 left and they are in really great shape for what they are, i was crawling around in them last weekend.

I restored one back in 1988. Radials are obtainable and it's always better to stick to the original engine. If it has no engine currently, make sure you find a Sherman engine rather than a Hellcat engine as you will need all the Sherman specific parts. If it has an engine currently, then a Hellcat engine would give you important bits!

A relatively easy restoration and a very user friendly vehicle. You will be amazed how many new friends you have if you do it. :cheers:

Great news for those of us who are a little slow on the cheque book.

Tell the collective masses what you saw, where they are stored, what makes this one better than that one? (small inquisitive face resting anxiously on hands under chin ...)

William Gregg restored one 20+ years ago in Rockwood ON but his whole collection was disposed of in the 90's IIRC to a military school out west and was NOT cared for. Someone else may have more details

Gregg's stuff went to the museum at CFB Shilo, in Manitoba, Home of The Royal Regiment of Canadian Artillery. I'm not sure what state it's in at present, but there are some here who will know.

It was a shame that it moved from Rockwood but I understand that he lost interest in the subject and went into pioneer quilts shortly before his passing. I had the pleasure of visiting his collection, getting a signed copy of Canadian Military Vehicle Profiles volume 2, and bumping around the yard in a gun tractor - and I mean bump around!!!! Thanks for making me feel welcomed!!!

See pics made in 2000 here. They were priced at $9,800.- back then, a couple of years ago when Perry Kitson bought his they were priced 5 grand each, reportedly.

SECO surely has a hard time getting rid of these Sextons!

they are priced at 9000.00 ea and shipping would be another 2000.00 or more.

but i am counting my pennies and anking myself if i really need 3 jeeps

Hi Dave,
There are a number of engine options for a Sexton. 6V53 Detroit will fit in with a radiator with very little modification. You wont break any land speed records, but it will move you around reliably. A 6V71 or 6V92 will fit, but you have to cut a larger hole in the hull division plate and find some way of getting a rad in. Diesel is also a lot safer in that enclosed engine compartment. Then there is the big block auto engine option with a special 2:1 transfer case to fit it in without cutting the division plate. I have looked into all these options for my Sexton, and have decided to bite the bullet and rebuild the radial to reinstall. This will keep it original, but maybe not too economical to run.
