UK WW2 Picture Can you indentify vehicle?
1 Attachment(s)
I looking for any information that could help trace the history of a relative, George Bambrough from Newcastle upon Tyne, UK.
He is the soldier on the left of the picture. We believe the picture was taken during WW2 but we have no details his regiment or location. We also don't have any information on the soldier in the peaked cap. After seraching the net we think the vehicle is a Canadian Military Pattern truck. Stecilled on the front are JESSIE and WOOLWICH. Can anyone help with identifying the truck, dates, locations or any other information? Any help would be much appreciated, Paul Allen, Northern Ireland |
Paul, it's definitely Canadian Military Pattern (CMP) truck, a Ford to be precise. From the height of the vehicle, I'd say off-hand it's a 60cwt, otherwise know as a '3-tonner'. That would make it an F-60 but what wheelbase and body we can't tell.
Are there any other photos? |
I'm afraid this is the only photo we have but thanks for the info.
Much appreciated. Paul |
if only you could find out what kind of chevy towed it to that location then you would know more about it. :p

CMP Vehicles
Paul:
In case you have never seen one, this is what a CMP vehicle looks like. Note the distinctive cab on this vehicle which has been restored by John Marchant in the UK. http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e3...ey/3tonCMP.jpg |

This cab style was first made in 1942 so that cuts it down a bit.

Paul the truck in the photo looks like its painted a stone
colour ,perhaps indicating the desert 1942 on. most were painted differently for Italy,if you are able, have a look in the forum for ww2 paint schemes to give you an idea. |
