Diamond T tractor-trailer combo

There are photos of Diamond T tractors towing semi- or towed trailers with boats as loads instead of tanks. I will dig my books out to check further.

DiamondT Bridge Carriers

John; The Canadian Army used three specialized variants of the DiamondT for bridging; These were all built on the 201" WB Chassis. They were - Lorry 4ton, 6wh, FBE(folding boat equipment), a purpose designed rack to carry 3 boats, also used to carry landing stage eqpt. Another was Lorry, 4ton,6wh, GS. Used by RCASC bridge Coys to tpt girders, bridging, rafts and Bailey bridging. The last was Lorry, 4ton, 6wh,Pontoon.Used by RCASC bridging Coy to tpt either 2 bow pontoons or 2 centre pontoons of Bailey bridge or Bailey rafts. Two truck mtd crane variants were also found on the 201"wb chassis, one mfr by Coles, and one by Bay City, used by the RCE for bridge erection or general lifting. Also,I would imagine the standard 4tonner (968A/B) was used as a GS load carrier for bridging operations due to it's heavy carrying capacity . Hope this helps.
Cheers, Bill.

Thanks! That does help. How does one know so much about this? Is there a good book on this? In particular, I would love to see a picture of 3 storm boats on one of these babies.
Thanks again!

DiamondT Info

John; Information on DiamondTs in Cdn service can be found in Dr. W.A. Gregg's book "Canada's Fighting Vehicles Europe 1943-1945". This book is no longer in print, but I believe a copy can be obtained from the RCA Kit Shop. I don't have the email address handy. I have been interested in DiamondTs in military service for many years(especially Cdn). I have a not very clear photo of a DT with the boat racks and boats given to me by the driver of one of those veh.
Cheers, Bill

DiamondTs

John; You're welcome. I'll attempt to post a pic of my truck for comparison. This old gal did the Med tour,Holland and Germany and ended up in Norway before I brought her home. Pic is at the Canada Day Pde in Oromocto, N.B., 1 July 03. This effort may or may not work. Cheers,Bill

Bill,
I've been looking for that book, but I can't find it. What is the address of the RCA kit shop? I can't find that either. I'm 0 for 2. Not good. Maybe I should play for the Jays.
Thanks!

Speaking of pick-up, have a look at what's dangling off the boom!(a very large Sea Mine)
Note the Navy chap providing direction. This was taken in Italy, and given to me by the driver of the "T"
