lp2 Steering measurments
 

Hello all, assistance required to reproduce some LP2 carrier steering parts- I require the outter diameter of the bearing sleeves on the cross axle rollers (the bearings were pressed into the sleeves & then fitted to mounts on the cross axle for track warping). I also require accurate measurments for the cam warping plate as all the steering parts on my LP2 are rusted almost beyond recognition. CAD drawings would be ideal or a non-rusty examble of either of these components would be great. I am trying to reproduce factory parts so if anyone down the track requires these parts I will have measurments to hand to reproduce factory spec parts as required. can anybody assist?????mMy carrier has suffered extensive floor rust- I am reproducing all of the floor yokes should anybody require some of these. But the track warping parts are almost beyond recognition-any body able to assist?????

P.S. tech tip- the castellated nut on top of the cam plate is available of the shelf at any good mini repair shop- exactly the same as the front hub nut on a mini cooper "s" type fitted with disc brakes- i have a bucket full for anybody that requires one.

According to my manual the cam follower and the cam pivot bearings are all the same.

ND3305 or interchangeable with plain bearing 1171

Looks like when supply was tight they used bronze bushes.

CBC or one of the bearing companies may be able to work out a size from the above numbers. Hope this helps.

Hi Guys, ND3305 crosses over to a 6305. THe rollers are the same size and would be interchange between LP2 and Canadian.
Basically the English/Canadian are B.S.F. thread form and the Aust
Carriers are U.N.F (American) thread form so most things dont interchange, But! in saying that some things do. The pins (eccentric) that mount these rollers to the cross tube would be interchangerable as long as the correct nut is used with each pin. I have found some variation in the profile of the cam plates (warp plates) An L.P.2 crosstube (the main shaft through the carrier) is longer than the Canadian one. The axle shafts will interchange
as will the wheel bearings. U.N.F countersunk screws have larger heads(and a different head angle) than B.S.F. ones. I suspect the ramp profile of the Aust cam plate is Shallower because of it's extra weight- (not sure on this) Hope this helps

Rob. TO answer your question, the O.D. of your rollers is a neat 3 inches and it's 7/8 thick the counter bore allows for the bearing as well as a thin steel plate that goes onto the pin first. it is the bottom seal. the pin has an eccentric where the bearing mounts that allows you to adjust the play out of the steering between the rollers and the cam plate. There is also a spacer at the top of
the roller (between the bearing and the clamp block) that also acts as the bearing top seal.

Rob, The reason for my ramblings about Eng/Canadian/Aust. interchange, came out of my mistaking you for Rob Groves of Canada, thinking he had an L.P.2, and trying to give him some local answers.......Dont tell anyone.....:o

Thanks Lynn, the outter diameter measurement was the only missing information. I suspected a flat washer was at the top by some thicker crumblings when dissasembled. from your measurments mine have worn or rusted away nearly a 1/4 of an inch!!!! from that i can work back the cam plate outter shape by locking the eccentrics at 1/2 way mark & go from there. The bearing I have already matched up, my normal bearing supplier loves me when I visit him with handfuls of rust. Back to the machine shop......

This last image shows the floor pedal plate. Ours was rusted out (closest one) so I had new ones fabricated. The centre one is a blank with the last one having the pedals fitted.

I'm trying to get hold of a mate, actually you might know him, Alan Newton. I have a feeling he obtained a new plate, but whether he did or if he did he has already fitted it, I'm not sure.

I like the pile beer bottles in the corner, kind of makes it feel like home. I am in the middle of making a new floor plate- how thick is yours Bob. I guesstimated 3mm plate was the nearest to standard but yours looks mighty thicker.....
