Can anyone confirm please if Bicycles with this type of marking have a post-war pedigree.
I would suspect just post-war. |
Neil,
That number, starting 6 / VEH /, looks to be a British Contract Number, and pretty sure it is post war. Many PW vehicles have Contract no's on their dataplates, starting with this ref. |

Neil, I have a bike with a similar number that I brought back from Dirk's place in Holland. He said it is British but I have not been able to identify the manufacturer. I wanted it to put in the back of my DAF. If you get any more info could you please let me know?
thanks, Barry |

Here's the frame number off my bicycle. Note it's on the left hand side of the frame: CB 9526. Does this ring a bell with somebody?
Thanks, Hanno |
I suspect any designation starting with a contract number is post-war but I have no definate proof.
Certainly BSA bikes and I assume others just had a serial number prefixed with a letter and a WD arrow applied. The BSA war-time Bicycles also had 28" wheels. Quite if all war-time Bikes had wheels of this size I do not know. |
