CMP Winch

While flipping through the lighting pages of volume 4 of the AEDB Design Record I found this photo showing a front mounted winch on a CMP. I knew of the mid-frame mount and the body mounted winches for wreckers, derricks and signals construction trucks but hadn't seen this version before. There is no mention of this setup in the section on winches in the same volume so I'm puzzled.

At first glance it seems to be on a Chevrolet. With the drive looking as if it is on the left hand side, I wonder if this might have been a method to mount a winch on the C60X using the PTO opening in the transmission case to replace the normal winch PTO point on the transfer case that is used for the rear drive on the C60X? A setup such as this could also have been set up to allow use with the truck's wheels driven.

Does anyone have better information they can point me toward?

Fascinating

It does rather look like a C60X with the 1" extension behind the grille. Well spotted Grant!

What an interesting photograph.

Good Day
This winch looks like the one that is found on the front of the 6x6 experimental FAT.

It also appears to be missing the two bumper towing clevis and replaced with hooks similar to those on vehicles such as the Studebaker US6x6.

It also appears to be in need of a wheel alignment.

Brian :)
